After that opening stretch, the rollout shifts to two episodes every Thursday, building toward a thirteenth and final episode on Oct. 29 . John Waters has joined the cast as well, playing a new character named Mr. Phibes, a medical specialist working alongside Constance Langdon .

Ryan Murphy has been direct about the intent behind this season, describing it to The Hollywood Reporter as a thank you to fans for sticking with the anthology this long . He has also called it a tribute season the franchise will not repeat, pointing to how surreal it felt to get so many original cast members back on set together .

The trailers back that framing up visually. Twisty the Clown from ‘Freak Show’ opens one teaser before the footage shifts into what appears to be a nod to the Hotel Cortez, and other glimpses show Cordelia Goode warning of a darkness closing in as a plane appears to catch fire mid flight . Reporting has indicated that ’13’ revisits the real Rosenheim Mansion, the house that has stood in for the fictional Murder House since the franchise’s first season, alongside elements pulled from ‘Asylum,’ ‘Coven,’ ‘Freak Show,’ ‘Hotel,’ ‘Roanoke’ and ‘Cult’ . A second trailer released in September further confirmed the return of the Coven witches’ knotty pine cabin, a setting closely tied to Fiona Goode’s arc that had not appeared on screen in years .
