‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Is Already Breaking Box Office Records Worldwide

Marvel is sending audiences back to the Infinity Saga’s grand finale ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ is already making noise overseas. The theatrical re-release adds 4 minutes of bonus footage, a new post-credits scene, and a fresh color grade, bringing the runtime to 185 minutes. Select IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings also include an exclusive sneak peek at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which arrives on December 18.

For Indonesian moviegoers, the timing carries extra weight. Earlier this year, local comedy ‘Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!’ ended ‘Avengers: Endgame’s long reign as the most-watched film ever screened in the country. The Jakarta Post reported in March that the sequel had sold 10,980,141 tickets, narrowly edging past the Marvel epic’s 10.97 million admissions.

Now Marvel’s heroes are fighting back. According to data platform Cinepoint, ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ pulled in 131,692 admissions in Indonesia across 2,108 showtimes on its first day, prompting the Indonesia-based app to declare that the Avengers had assembled once again.

The figure quickly spread to Reddit’s r/boxoffice community, where users noted that the new admissions push ‘Endgame’s combined total back ahead of ‘Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!’, which finished its run with 11,000,866 admissions. In other words, the re-release didn’t just open well; it returned the overall admissions record to Marvel after only a few months in second place.

To keep things in perspective, this is not an all-time opening-day record in Indonesia. That benchmark still belongs to ‘Dilan 1991’, which drew around 800,255 viewers on its first day in 2019, while ‘Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!’ opened with 272,846 admissions from 3,722 screens.

The rivalry makes this comeback especially interesting. Directed and written by Muhadkly Acho and produced by Ernest Prakasa’s Imajinari, ‘Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!’ premiered on November 27, 2025, as a standalone sequel to 2024’s ‘Agak Laen’, which drew about 9.1 million attendees.

The comedy stars podcast hosts Bene Dion, Oki Rengga, Boris Bokir, and Indra Jegel as police officers who go undercover in a nursing home to solve a murder. Its run became a cultural event, and The Jakarta Post framed its victory over ‘Endgame’ as a sign that Indonesian stories can draw crowds once dominated by Hollywood blockbusters.

The original ‘Avengers: Endgame’ first hit theaters on April 26, 2019, and set a record with a global opening weekend of $1.2 billion. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, it closed out the first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This time around, Disney is using ‘Encore’ to launch Infinity Vision, a new premium certification for screens at least 45 feet wide with Dolby 7.1 surround sound and strong brightness standards. As of April, Disney said there were 75 certified theaters in the United States and 300 internationally.

The Russo brothers have also called the re-release required viewing before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which likely explains some of the urgency among fans. Interest is running high enough that the new scenes have already leaked online ahead of the film’s broader September 25 rollout.

With a strong first day behind it, ‘Endgame Encore’ should keep adding to its Indonesian tally over the coming weeks. How far it can stretch its lead over ‘Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!’ will depend on how long local cinemas keep it on their screens.

Either way, the friendly rivalry between Marvel’s biggest team-up and Indonesia’s most beloved comedy crew has turned a simple re-release into one of the more entertaining box office stories of the year.
