‘The Pickup’ Star Eva Longoria (51) Channels Gabrielle Solis by Cleaning Her Pool in a Sequined Gown and Heels
More than a decade after ‘Desperate Housewives’ wrapped its run, Eva Longoria still knows exactly how to bring Gabrielle Solis back to life. The ABC drama ran for 8 seasons until 2012, and Longoria’s former model-turned-housewife became one of its most iconic characters, famous for her love of luxury, the color red, and a deep allergy to anything resembling chores.
Longoria has never been shy about honoring her most famous role. Back in 2021, she posted a red one-shoulder bikini photo as a nod to Gaby’s favorite color, and fans flooded the comments with love for the character they still consider the show’s best.
Now Longoria has delivered her funniest tribute yet. On Tuesday, September 22, she shared an Instagram video of herself skimming her Los Angeles pool while dressed in full evening glamour, joking that 20 years later she was finally doing housework.
Her outfit was anything but practical. Yahoo Style reported that she wore an off-white, plunging, floor-length halter gown covered in sequins with sparkling jewelry around her neck, and the photos also show her wearing heels as she scoops debris from the water with the city skyline stretching out behind her.
To complete the joke, she set the clip to the ‘Desperate Housewives’ theme song. The tongue-in-cheek post was a clear wink at Gabrielle, who famously wanted nothing to do with cleaning.
Longoria’s followers loved every second of it. One fan said they could practically hear her screaming for Carlos, while another quoted a classic Gaby line about being so bored she almost cleaned the house.
Others used the moment to beg for more. One commenter pleaded with Netflix to produce a new version of ‘Desperate Housewives’, a sign of just how strong the show’s nostalgia remains. Fans immediately recognized Gabrielle Solis in the stunt.
While the video pokes fun at her character’s aversion to work, Longoria’s real schedule is packed. Her CNN series ‘Eva Longoria: Searching for France’ premiered on April 12, following her journey across the country to explore its culinary traditions over 8 episodes.
The network has already renewed the show for a second season set for 2027. “CNN has been an incredible partner over the years now, and I’m thrilled to be heading back to one of my favorite places in the world together,” Longoria said in a CNN announcement.
She’s also staying busy behind the camera. Longoria is directing ‘The Fifth Wheel’ for Netflix, a film starring Kim Kardashian that was among the projects selected for California’s new film and television tax credits.
On the acting front, Longoria stars in Amazon MGM’s ‘The Last Sunrise’, an adaptation of Anna Todd’s romance novel that was filmed in Mallorca. She plays Isolde, the fiercely protective mother of a 22-year-old played by Maia Reficco.
She has also built an impressive résumé beyond Wisteria Lane, including a recurring role on ‘Only Murders in the Building’, guest spots on ‘Empire’, ‘Jane the Virgin’, and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, and the Apple TV+ series ‘Land of Women’. Her production company Hyphenate Media Group has several more projects in the pipeline, including ‘House of the Spirits’ for Amazon.
Even with all that on her plate, Longoria clearly still has time to have fun with the role that made her a household name. If her pool-cleaning glam is any indication, Gaby would at least approve of the outfit, even if she would never touch the net.
