‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Has Reportedly Held Multiple Test Screenings, and Insiders Are Buzzing
With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ less than 3 months away, every whisper about Marvel’s next team-up is being picked apart by fans. The Russo brothers’ film brings Robert Downey Jr. back to the MCU as Doctor Doom and unites the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and X-Men from different universes.
The pressure on the film is enormous. Looper noted that the MCU is in need of a big win after projects like ‘Thunderbolts*’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ underperformed at the box office, which is why early word on ‘Doomsday’ is being watched so closely.
The latest bit of buzz comes from insider Daniel Richtman, who posted on X that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has now had 3 test screenings. Richtman didn’t elaborate, simply adding a pair of wide-eyed emojis that fans quickly read as a tease.
When the update spread to Reddit’s r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, it was shared with the added note that reactions have been good so far. It’s worth pointing out that Richtman’s own post only mentions the number of screenings, so any claims about how audiences responded should be treated with extra caution.

Some outlets reported that the screening update circulated alongside another of Richtman’s claims, that the opening 10 minutes of the film are intense enough to give viewers heart attacks. As with his previous teases, he offered no specifics, and Marvel Studios has not commented.

Richtman’s post adds to months of chatter about the film’s early showings. In April, scooper MyTimeToShineH claimed Marvel held a private screening of a pre-reshoots cut for Kevin Feige and select staff, who were reportedly very pleased with what they saw, according to ScreenGeek.
Looper reported that the film was said to have tested at around the same level as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, with some attendees reportedly calling it the Russo brothers’ best Marvel movie yet. That would be bold praise, considering the directors also helmed ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

More recently, ComicBookMovie reported that reshoots had wrapped and that another internal screening included an unfinished post-credits scene. Those scores were reportedly much higher than ‘Endgame’, though the outlet noted the screenings appear to be internal only.
Not everyone is taking the buzz at face value. BroBible acknowledged that glowing test-screening stories could be planted to build hype, and none of these reports have been confirmed by Marvel.
Internal screenings with studio staff are also very different from public reactions or critics’ reviews. Until the film screens more widely, these updates remain unverified buzz rather than proof of quality.
Cosmic Book News reported that the runtime is holding at around 2 hours and 45 minutes. Time News noted that Anthony Russo has described the film as a fresh-start moment for Marvel, with the directors drawing inspiration from the Western classic ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ to manage the huge ensemble.
The cast includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, and Sebastian Stan, along with ‘X-Men’ veterans Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden. Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron wrote the screenplay.
Anticipation already appears sky-high. Cosmic Book News reported that presales hit $50 million with 100 days to go, and ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore’, now in theaters, includes a ‘Doomsday’ sneak peek.
