Doctor Doom Takes Center Stage as Robert Downey Jr. Shares New ‘Avengers’ Artwork
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Crashes the ‘Endgame Encore’ Party, and He’s Not Sharing His Snacks. Robert Downey Jr. has turned his Doctor Doom casting into one of the most entertaining promotional campaigns in recent Marvel memory. Since revealing at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 that he would return to the MCU as Victor Von Doom, the former Iron Man star has used his Instagram to keep the villain front and center.
The posts have followed the calendar. He celebrated Valentine’s Day with a Doom-themed card and chocolates inside the villain’s iconic mask, marked St. Patrick’s Day with artwork of Doom holding a clover, and shared an Easter basket illustration that drew more than 412,000 likes within hours, according to ComingSoon.net.
Now Downey is celebrating the return of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in the same playful style. As ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore‘ hit theaters on September 25, the actor shared new official artwork showing Doctor Doom settling in to watch the re-release, as ComicBookMovie reported.
In the image, Doom sits in a red theater seat surrounded by movie snacks, including a pretzel, a striped soda cup, boxes of Goobers and Junior Mints, and the Nano Gauntlet popcorn bucket from ‘Endgame’. Downey captioned the artwork by declaring that Doom would attend, but that there would be absolutely no sharing of snacks.
One fan jokingly questioned why there was no banana split, while many others enjoyed the sight of the villain gripping a bucket shaped like the gauntlet Tony Stark used to save the universe.

The artwork adds to a growing collection of Doom-themed posts. According to AOL, Downey previously shared a Super Bowl image with his wife, Susan Downey, wearing green Doomsday jerseys, along with Christmas artwork captioned “Silver & Gold” featuring both Doom and Iron Man masks.
He has also leaned into the December box office showdown with ‘Dune: Part Three’, referring to the shared release date as “Dunesday”. Some of the posts have even sparked fan theories, with SuperHeroHype noting that followers believed his Easter artwork hinted at Doctor Strange’s return in ‘Doomsday’.

The snack-filled artwork arrives as the Encore gets off to a strong start. ComicBookMovie reported that the re-release is expected to top the North American box office this weekend, with more than $3 million in preview screenings looking likely.
The Encore also includes new footage tying directly into ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which arrives on December 18. That makes Doom’s appearance at the screening feel especially fitting, even if he’s keeping the popcorn to himself.
The Russo brothers have praised Downey’s commitment to the part. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Joe Russo said the actor was completely immersed in the role, writing backstory and pitching costume ideas while developing the character, as Variety reported.
That passion stands out given Downey’s history with the franchise. He helped launch the MCU with 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ and played Tony Stark in 10 Marvel films over 11 years before the character’s death in ‘Endgame’.
The villain will face an enormous ensemble in ‘Doomsday’, including Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Sebastian Stan, and X-Men legends like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Until then, Downey seems happy to let Doom have a little fun with fans.
