‘Reacher’ Just Can’t Stop Dominating the Streaming Charts, and Nielsen Has the Receipts
Some streaming hits burn bright for a week or two and then quietly fade from the conversation. Prime Video’s ‘Reacher’ has never really played by those rules, and the Alan Ritchson-led action series has once again proven why it remains one of the most reliable draws in the streaming game. Its latest run is shaping up to be one of the most consistent of its entire tenure.
The fourth season premiered on August 12 with its first 3 episodes, followed by weekly releases leading up to a September 16 finale. This time, the story adapts ‘Gone Tomorrow’, the 13th novel in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, with the action relocated from the book’s New York setting to Philadelphia.
Now, the latest numbers are in, and they’re impressive. According to Nielsen, ‘Reacher‘ generated 1.18 billion minutes of viewing for the week of September 7 to 13, which marked the fifth consecutive week the new season cleared the 1 billion-minute mark.
The series also repeated as the No. 1 overall streaming title in the United States, a spot it has held in 4 of the 5 weeks since the season premiered. That five-week stretch pushed the show past 5 billion minutes of U.S. viewing since its August debut.
It’s a strong showing, especially considering the season started a little softer than its predecessors. Its opening week drew 1.5 billion minutes, while the first weeks of the previous 3 seasons landed between 1.69 billion and 1.84 billion minutes, though the premiere still ranks as the fifth-biggest Nielsen week in the show’s history.

That debut week set the tone for what followed. Roughly 1.19 billion minutes came from the 3 new episodes alone, meaning the fresh installments would have topped the charts on their own. The series easily finished ahead of Apple TV’s ‘Ted Lasso’, which recorded 996 million minutes, and Paramount+’s ‘Lioness’, which pulled in 955 million.
Not every chart has been kind, though. The show has slipped to No. 2 on Prime Video’s own U.S. and global rankings, but it’s still performing at a level most streamers would happily take.
The new season introduced a fresh roster of characters, with Ritchson joined by Sydelle Noel as Philadelphia detective Tamara Green and Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette as small-town officer Jacob Merrick, a role originally set for Jay Baruchel. The story kicks off when Reacher’s encounter with a troubled woman on a train takes a dangerous turn, pulling him into a deadly conspiracy involving a missing USB drive.

Indonesian superstar Agnez Mo plays Lila Hoth, an assassin posing as a journalist, while Anggun plays her colleague Amisha Hoth. Mo’s performance has clearly struck a chord, with fans online praising her as a talented and captivating villain. Ritchson has previously described this chapter as the bloodiest season yet.
The success of the fourth season comes as Prime Video continues building out the property. The spinoff ‘Neagley’ debuted all 8 episodes on September 16, the same day as the finale, with Maria Sten starring as Frances Neagley, a Chicago private investigator and Reacher’s former military protégé.
The spinoff has already become a hit, and it’s actually the series that edged out the flagship show on Prime Video’s platform rankings. That leaves the franchise in the rare position of running 2 successful shows at once, with Ritchson also set to guest star in ‘Neagley’.
Fans won’t have to wait long for more of the big guy, either. ‘Reacher’ was renewed for a fifth season before the fourth even premiered, and it will adapt ‘Make Me’, Lee Child’s 20th novel, with production already underway.
Is Reacher still the top action series on streaming?
