Chris Hansen Fires Back at Robert Pattinson by Recreating His Iconic Kitchen Meme

Few actors have given the internet as many reaction images as Robert Pattinson, and his latest role has only added to the pile. Now, the real man behind that role is joining in, with Chris Hansen taking aim at the Robert Pattinson kitchen meme in a way nobody saw coming.

Pattinson stars as the former ‘To Catch a Predator’ host in A24’s ‘Primetime’, the feature debut from documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. Written by Ajon Singh and based on Luke Dittrich’s 2007 Esquire article, the film follows Hansen in 2006 as the show transitioned from ‘Dateline NBC’ to its own primetime block, and A24 labels it as inspired by true events rather than a biopic.

With the movie hitting theaters on September 25, Hansen decided to get in on the fun. He shared a photo of himself recreating Pattinson’s viral kitchen snap, standing in a nearly identical kitchen with wood cabinets and a white fridge while wearing a brown striped track jacket, camo pants, and tan boots.

“Two can play at that game,” Hansen wrote in a post on YouTube, noting that Pattinson is portraying him in the new movie. He used the image to tease his upcoming reaction to the film after attending an opening night screening.

The side-by-side comparison exploded online after Complex shared it. Some fans admitted they had mistaken the original photo for someone else entirely, while others were convinced the recreation had to be AI.

The stunt fits right into Pattinson’s remarkable run on social media. The first ‘Primetime’ trailer turned his uncanny delivery of the line “You see how this looks, right?” into a meme template almost instantly.

By mid-September, the trend had evolved even further. Users on X began pairing stills of Pattinson as Hansen with rap lyrics, with one early version set to Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ earning more than 24,000 likes in just 2 days.

It all comes during a banner year for the actor, following the success of ‘The Drama’ and ‘The Odyssey’. Phoebe Bridgers also stars in ‘Primetime’, which Gold Derby projected would open to around $18 million this weekend.

Behind the jokes, Hansen has been openly critical of the project. He previously said on Fox News that he walked out of A24’s offices without seeing the film because of a legal agreement he was asked to sign, though a source told TheWrap it was a standard NDA required of all preview audiences.

He has also questioned why the movie needed to use his real name at all, and said he wouldn’t rule out legal action until he had seen it. Hansen described Pattinson’s impression as overly dramatic, though he admitted his family thought it was a pretty good imitation.

After finally watching ‘Primetime’ in a crowded Times Square theater, Hansen sat down with Jesse Watters on his podcast ‘Have a Seat with Chris Hansen’ and gave Pattinson’s performance a D. When Watters called it a tough grade, Hansen replied, “But I’m kind of the only guy that counts in this room,” he said on the podcast.

Pattinson, for his part, has been gracious about the whole situation, expressing hope that Hansen would come to see the portrayal as a compliment. Hansen has even acknowledged Pattinson as a talented actor, even while insisting the film is a fictionalized version of events.

Whether Hansen is genuinely annoyed or just leaning into the attention, his meme recreation proves he understands the internet better than most. For now, the unlikely back-and-forth between the actor and the man he’s playing is giving ‘Primetime’ a publicity boost money can’t buy.
