‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Quietly Hands Fans a Roadmap to ‘Doomsday’
When Marvel announced it was bringing its biggest blockbuster back to theaters, most fans expected a nostalgic victory lap with a few bells and whistles. Instead, the ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ new scenes have turned the re-release into an essential piece of the puzzle ahead of the next Avengers team-up, and spoilers follow below.
The original ‘Endgame’ famously skipped traditional post-credits scenes, closing the Infinity Saga with Tony Stark’s funeral, Old Steve’s meeting with Sam, and Steve’s long-awaited dance with Peggy Carter. The final sound audiences heard was the clanging of a hammer, a callback to Tony forging his first Iron Man suit in a cave.
Now, Variety reports that the 4 new sequences in the Encore were shot during the production of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, directly setting up the storyline for the MCU’s next big chapter. Together, they reshape the ending of ‘Endgame’ and introduce the threat of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
The changes begin before the credits even roll. As Steve and Peggy share their dance, a knock at the door interrupts them, and a visitor tells Peggy that he’s actually there to help them both. The guest turns out to be Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, the same version who reorganized the TVA and allowed the multiverse to flourish in his Disney+ series.
The first post-credits scene catches up with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, living in self-imposed isolation in a military facility 2 miles underground. Recording a video log, he reveals that his recent Hulk incident was the first in a decade and explains that he’s testing an experimental gamma treatment.

Then the lights begin flickering, and Doom’s voice announces that he has come to collect Banner. Audiences hear Banner transform into the Hulk before both disappear, leaving behind glowing green magical markings.
That incident appears to tie back to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, where Jean Grey’s psychic control brought a dangerous version of the Hulk back. The abduction also follows Doom’s apparent pursuit of Franklin Richards in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, raising questions about whether he is collecting super-powered beings for a larger plan.

The third scene cleverly repurposes the original ending. The familiar hammering sound remains, but it’s now paired with flashes of Doom forging his metal mask by hand.
Since Downey previously played Tony Stark, the moment reads like a deliberate twist on the franchise’s origins. It doesn’t explain how Doom sustained his facial injuries, but it makes clear he’s preparing for battle.
The final scene takes place at the TVA, where Owen Wilson’s Mobius arrives for a regular workday, coffee in hand, beneath a picture of Loki as employee of the month. Eugene Cordero’s Casey warns that universes Earth-10005 and Earth-1127 are about to collide, with the 2 realities firing missiles at each other.
Other TVA employees soon report that up to 3,000 similar events are happening rapidly. Ke Huy Quan’s OB delivers the chilling conclusion that the multiverse is collapsing before the screen cuts to black.
Earth-10005 is the universe of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ and ‘Deadpool’ films, and the first ‘Doomsday’ trailer already hinted that this world is facing a catastrophe. Some fan theories even suggest Doom may blame Steve Rogers for his tragedy, since Steve’s choice to stay in the past created a branched reality, though the Encore doesn’t confirm that.
With Kang originally set as the saga’s central villain before Marvel changed course, Doom has had limited screen time in the main MCU so far. The Encore helps establish him as an imminent threat, even if the heroes aren’t yet aware of the danger.
It all builds toward ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which arrives on December 18 with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers already confirmed. For fans hoping to be fully caught up, this re-release now feels less like a bonus and more like required viewing.
