Tom Holland Digs up a Nostalgic ‘Endgame’ Set Photo to Hype Marvel’s Big Re-Release

Marvel has pulled out all the stops to get fans back into theaters for its biggest blockbuster, and now Spider-Man himself is joining the campaign. Tom Holland’s ‘Endgame Encore’ promo is a charming reminder of how the Infinity Saga came together behind the scenes, complete with a costume that looked nothing like his famous red-and-blue suit.

The re-release has been generating serious momentum since it arrived in theaters this week. ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore‘ adds 4 minutes of extra footage designed to establish a link to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and the directors have made it clear they want fans to see it before the new film.

Now, Holland has added his voice to that push. The actor shared a behind-the-scenes photo to his Instagram Story showing himself on set alongside Brie Larson, telling fans that ‘Endgame’ is back in theaters with new footage and urging them to check it out.

In the image, Larson stands in her full Captain Marvel costume, gesturing toward Holland with a smile. Holland, meanwhile, is dressed in a motion-capture suit covered in tracking markers, a far cry from the high-tech Spider-Man armor audiences saw on screen.

The post quickly gained traction on social media, with fans joking about how many more trips to the theater Marvel is asking of them. One reply playfully complained that just as they thought their popcorn budget was safe, another teaser arrived to empty their wallet.

Longtime fans may recognize the vibe of this snapshot. When ‘Endgame’ first hit digital in 2019, Holland posted a similar photo with Larson and the late Chadwick Boseman, with Larson and Boseman in their actual costumes while he wore the mo-cap suit, jokingly declaring that he definitely had the coolest outfit.

The photo also serves as a neat reminder of Larson’s unusual start in the MCU. She has explained in several interviews that she filmed her first Marvel scenes for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ before shooting ‘Captain Marvel’, even though her solo film came out first, meaning she didn’t fully know what her powers would be at the time.

Holland’s promotion lines up with what the Russo brothers have been saying for weeks. Joe Russo has described the connection between the Encore and ‘Doomsday’ as critical, explaining that the new footage illustrates that link for audiences ahead of December.

The new material includes an extended ending featuring Loki visiting Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, along with credits scenes showing Doctor Doom abducting Bruce Banner, forging his metal mask, and the TVA witnessing the multiverse begin to collapse. Viewers on IMAX and Infinity Vision screens also get an exclusive sneak peek at ‘Doomsday’.

The strategy appears to be working. The re-release earned more than $18 million overseas on its opening Friday, according to analyst Jatinder Singh, with a global weekend expected to exceed $85 million.

Holland’s appearance in the promo also comes during a big year for his web-slinger. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has grossed more than $2.4 billion worldwide since its release at the end of July, and Banner’s new credits scene even references a Hulk incident tied to that film.

Still, Holland was not part of the initial ‘Doomsday’ cast reveal, and fans continue to wonder whether Spider-Man will swing into the crossover. Co-director Anthony Russo has admitted the full cast hasn’t been announced, keeping that speculation alive.

For now, fans have a limited window to catch the Encore before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives on December 18. If Holland’s post is any indication, the cast is fully invested in getting audiences back for one more round.
