Rachel Weisz Returns as Evelyn O’Connell in First Look Photos From ‘The Mummy 4’ Set

For over 2 decades, fans have wondered whether they would ever see Rachel Weisz as Evelyn O’Connell again, and the first set photos from ‘The Mummy 4’ have finally answered that question. The beloved librarian-turned-action heroine is back, and she looks every bit as elegant as audiences remember.

The road to this moment has been a long one. Brendan Fraser and Weisz last co-starred in ‘The Mummy Returns’ in 2001, and Weisz sat out the third film in 2008, with Maria Bello taking over the role. Fans universally mourned the missing chemistry, and years of reboots only deepened the hope of seeing Rick and Evie on screen together again.

That wait is now over. Set photos showing Weisz filming in London have been flooding social media, featuring the 56-year-old actress in a yellow polka-dot skirt, brown cropped jacket and matching wide-brimmed hat. The scenes were recorded outside the British Museum, where her character clutched a vintage leather briefcase and held an old-fashioned transistor radio up to her face.

The images quickly sent fans into a frenzy. One enthusiastic fan account celebrated her return as Evelyn, capturing the collective joy of a fandom that has waited years for this moment.

Her leather gloves also caught attention, carrying the ruggedly elegant vibe Weisz brought to the role in the original films. That tracks with the character’s history, as costume designer John Bloomfield originally dressed Evelyn in period outfits with modern adjustments that suited the era without hiding the actress beneath layers of hoop skirts.

The costumes offer a few clues about the timeline. The original film was set in 1926, while ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ took place in 1947. With the original shot nearly 3 decades ago, Dark Horizons speculated the new chapter will likely unfold in the early-to-mid 1950s.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps. So far, nothing has been revealed beyond the inevitable exploration of creepy burial chambers and how Rick and Evelyn’s relationship has evolved.

The sequel has been gathering momentum for a while. Reports first confirmed in November 2025 that Fraser and Weisz would reprise their roles, and Fraser revealed to Canal+ that cameras started rolling on Monday, September 7, saying that returning feels like reuniting with an old friend.

The legacy reunion extends beyond the O’Connells. John Hannah, Oded Fehr, and Kevin J. O’Connor are also set to return, while newcomers include Numan Acar and Michael Johnson. David Coggeshall is writing the script, with Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing.

Fans won’t have to wait quite as long as originally planned. The film was first dated for May 19, 2028, but Universal moved it up to October 15, 2027. That original slot is now being filled by ‘Miami Vice ’85’.

The stakes are high for Universal. Producer Sean Daniel has worked on every installment of the franchise since 1999, which has grossed $1.8 billion, and he returns alongside Fraser, who also serves as an executive producer.

Radio Silence is an intriguing choice for the job, having successfully reignited the ‘Scream’ franchise, and the studio appears to be steering the series back toward swashbuckling fun rather than grim reinvention. With Weisz back in costume, the O’Connell magic feels closer than ever.

For a generation raised on the originals, seeing Evie stride through London again is more than a casting win. It’s the return of a heroine whose wit and bravery helped define an era of adventure movies.
