‘Minions & Monsters’ Is Heading to Peacock Just in Time for Halloween

Few animated franchises have printed money quite like Illumination’s yellow troublemakers, and ‘Minions & Monsters‘ is the latest chapter in that remarkable run. Created 15 years ago, the Minions have helped push the ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Minions’ films to a combined global box office of more than $5.6 billion. The franchise launched in 2010 with the original ‘Despicable Me’, which featured Steve Carell as supervillain Gru.

The newest film continues that legacy with a fresh setting. The third ‘Minions’ movie and seventh installment overall finds the Minions living as movie stars during Hollywood’s silent era, and when sound arrives, they realize nobody can understand their Minionese language. Naturally, chaos follows when they accidentally unleash monsters into the world.

After premiering at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 21 and opening in theaters on July 1, the film now has a home on streaming. As Variety reported, ‘Minions & Monsters’ will be available to stream on Peacock on October 28 after earning $523 million at the summer box office.

That timing lands the movie on streaming 119 days after its theatrical debut, and 2 days earlier than some predictions had expected. It also arrives just ahead of Halloween, a fitting window for a movie packed with monsters.

The film’s box office performance was undeniably strong. It became the ninth-highest-grossing film globally of 2026, cementing its place among the year’s major hits. Still, it faced a tough comparison. The previous ‘Minions’ film, 2022’s ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’, was a summer tentpole that earned almost $1 billion worldwide.

Some coverage has pointed to a gap between the film’s glowing reviews and its audience turnout, suggesting that a second life on streaming could help it reach families who skipped theaters.

Pierre Coffin, the franchise co-creator who has voiced the Minions since their film debut in 2010, directed the movie alongside Patrick Delage. Coffin previously helmed the first 3 ‘Despicable Me’ films and the first ‘Minions’ movie.

The screenplay comes from Brian Lynch and Coffin, with Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan producing. The voice cast is led by Allison Janney, Jeff Bridges and Jesse Eisenberg, with Zoey Deutch also on board, and George Lucas even pops up in a surprise cameo that got fans talking.

Peacock subscribers will get more than just the movie. The streamer is adding a collection of bonus content, including ‘Minions Take on Hollywood’, which explores the film’s early Hollywood setting, and ‘Casting Minions & Monsters’, which introduces the voices behind the characters.

There’s even a ‘How to Draw’ featurette where head of story Nima Azarba teaches viewers how to sketch the Minions and monsters. On top of that, ‘Minions’, ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Despicable Me 2’ will also join the service, making Peacock a one-stop shop for a franchise marathon.

Fans who don’t subscribe to Peacock may eventually get another option. Due to Universal’s streaming deal with Netflix, the film is reported to stay on Peacock for the first 4 months of its pay TV window before moving to Netflix for 10 months, then returning to Peacock for 4 more months.

That points to a Netflix arrival around late February or early March 2027. For those who can’t wait, the film has been available to rent or buy digitally since August 11, with physical copies arriving on September 8.

With its streaming debut locked in, ‘Minions & Monsters’ has a real chance to find a wider audience. Its Halloween-adjacent release and franchise tie-ins make it an easy pick for family movie nights this fall.
