‘South America’ New Teaser: Butters Takes Aim at Billionaires in a Wild AI Data Center Showdown

Few shows can turn a headline into a punchline as quickly as the long-running Comedy Central satire, and the latest ‘South Park’ teaser shows Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren’t slowing down. Season 29 arrived with a bold twist before a single episode aired. The creators announced that the series would now be known as ‘South America’, a comedic jab at the Trump administration’s renaming of places like the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.

The duo leaned all the way in with their announcement, framing the rebrand as a tribute to Apple and Google for adopting the new names and slyly thanking parent company Paramount. The joke didn’t stop there, either. The premiere featured an updated theme song celebrating the name change, complete with a new Donald Trump cameo.

That premiere, ‘South American Biker Gangs‘, debuted on September 16 and followed the chaos that erupts when e-bikes arrive in town and the boys take over the streets. Kenny met his usual fate when his e-bike exploded, uniting the town to outlaw e-bikes and sell “South America Strong” T-shirts.

Audiences clearly showed up. The episode pulled in 4.2 million viewers in its first 3 days. The season also arrived fresh off the show’s sixth Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program, ending a 13-year drought in the category.

Now, the spotlight is shifting to one of the show’s most beloved characters. Several outlets shared the first teaser for the next episode of ‘South America’ on X, noting that the story follows Butters as he grows angry about the AI data centers billionaires are building in their backyards.

The official synopsis confirms the premise, describing Butters as unhappy with the data centers billionaires are building in the town. In the teaser, a furious-looking Butters stands in a doorway with his brow furrowed and fists clenched, a rare burst of rage from a character usually known for his sweetness.

Season 29, Episode 2 premieres Wednesday, September 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. It will then stream exclusively on Paramount+ the following day. The season follows a biweekly rhythm. After September 30, new episodes are scheduled for October 14, October 28, November 11, and November 25.

This isn’t the first time ‘South Park’ has put Butters at the center of an artificial intelligence storyline. Last season, the episode ‘Sora Not Sorry’ saw his AI revenge plan backfire, sparking an epidemic of fake videos at school.

That episode arrived just weeks after fans used the AI video generator Sora 2 to create fake ‘South Park’ episodes. The company reportedly responded by banning users from replicating the show’s content, making the storyline feel especially pointed.

The reaction online suggests viewers are fully on board with the premise. One fan replied to the teaser that having Butters be the one to lose his mind over the issue makes it even funnier, capturing why the choice of protagonist feels so inspired.

Between the ‘South America’ rebrand, strong ratings, and a fresh Emmy on the shelf, Season 29 is shaping up to be one of the show’s most talked-about runs in years.
