’Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Blu-Ray Delay Keeps Peter Parker Out of Fans’ Collections Until the Holidays
Tom Holland’s latest outing as the web-slinger has spent the past 2 months rewriting the record books, and anyone waiting for the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ physical release now has a little longer to wait. The film, which opened on July 31 after preview screenings on July 29, has become the highest-grossing movie in domestic box office history.
Worldwide, the picture has earned roughly $2.495 billion, making it the 3rd-highest-grossing release of all time globally. That’s a remarkable haul for a film made on a $225 million budget, the 2nd-highest for any ‘Spider-Man’ movie.
According to a new update from MCU Film News, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has been pushed back on physical media and will now arrive on December 14. The 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions were originally set for November 17.
That earlier date first surfaced through HD Report, and it would have given the movie a 109-day gap between its theatrical debut and its disc release. Sony was already giving this sequel nearly 3 extra weeks compared to most Disney-released MCU titles, which typically land about 90 days after opening.
The December date lines up with news out of the UK as well, where 2 4K SteelBook editions are due on December 14. One is an HMV exclusive, while the other will be available at retailers across the board.
Eagle-eyed collectors saw this coming. Earlier this month, the November 17 date disappeared from many retail listings, which suggested Sony’s plans had shifted. French outlet Comicsblog reported that the Blu-ray release had quietly vanished from online stores, reading it as a sign the studio wanted to keep the celebration going in theaters.
That lines up with Sony’s decision to extend the film’s theatrical run until November 16, the longest big-screen run for a Sony release since ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in 2021. Even as box office numbers cooled after Labor Day, cinemas agreed to keep screening the film on some screens until at least mid-November.
Fans are already connecting the dots, with one reply to the MCU Film News post asking whether the new date is tied to the extended cut re-release. That theory has some weight behind it after Deadline reported that the film is getting a theatrical re-release featuring extra footage.

The added material reportedly includes, but isn’t limited to, Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple. It would be her first MCU appearance since ‘Luke Cage’ Season 2 in 2018 and her first ever in an MCU movie. No timing for the re-release has been announced yet, and Sony hasn’t confirmed any link to the disc delay.
Viewers who don’t want to wait for a disc won’t be stuck for long. The film is set to hit digital platforms on October 6, 67 days after it opened in theaters, which is a little longer than the 45 to 60-day window Marvel movies usually get.
When the physical editions do arrive, collectors will have plenty of options. Alongside standard 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD versions, a Collector’s Edition package includes a SteelBook set, a custom-printed comic book, a movie relic card and a magnetic lenticular outer cover.
A December street date also puts the release right in the thick of the holiday shopping season. It lands just 4 days before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18, which should keep Peter Parker firmly in the conversation heading into Marvel’s next big event.
Streaming remains the furthest-off option. Because of Sony’s deal with Netflix, the film will debut there first before joining the earlier ‘Spider-Man’ films on Disney+, and that isn’t expected until at least early 2027.
