Awards season chatter is heating up, and all eyes are turning to Mikey Madison as ‘The Social Reckoning’ press tour gets underway. It’s her first major promotional run since her breakout success with ‘Anora’, and this time she’s leading an Aaron Sorkin film.

Madison famously isn’t on social media, which makes every public appearance feel like a rare event. Beyond a couple of luxury endorsement deals, she keeps a low profile, so fans have been waiting eagerly for her return to the spotlight. That return has officially begun. On day 1 of press, Madison stepped out in a brown set featuring a fitted blazer and a short skirt, wearing her hair up in a sleek style.

The outfit leaned into a sharply tailored silhouette, with the structured blazer cinched at the waist and flaring over the matching skirt. She finished the look with sheer black thigh-high stockings and pointed black boots, adding an edgy contrast to the warm brown tones.

The press tour supports one of the fall’s most anticipated releases. Written and directed by Sorkin, ‘The Social Reckoning’ is described as a companion piece to ‘The Social Network’ rather than a direct sequel.

Madison plays Frances Haugen, a young Facebook engineer who enlists the help of Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, played by Jeremy Allen White. Together, they go on a dangerous journey that ends with blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.

The story is based on The Wall Street Journal’s ‘The Facebook Files’, a series of investigative reports published in October 2021. Those articles exposed harms ranging from the suppression of certain political movements to a toxic impact on teen girls.

Madison has spoken about the unusual approach she took to the role. She described playing Haugen as an intellectual transformation, focusing less on physical likeness and more on capturing Haugen’s mindset and emotional restraint.

She has also said she was drawn to the story of a woman largely unknown to the public, despite taking what Madison saw as a courageous step against a powerful company. Madison is first on the call sheet, but she’s surrounded by heavy hitters. Jeremy Strong plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, while Bill Burr, Betty Gilpin, Wunmi Mosaku and Billy Magnussen also appear.

The original ‘The Social Network’ was a major success, grossing over $226 million and earning 8 Oscar nominations. That legacy has set high expectations for Sorkin’s return to Facebook’s story. The film is already being discussed as a possible Oscar contender across several categories. However, Oscar experts aren’t currently ranking Madison among the top 5 projected Best Actress nominees, though it’s still early in the race.

Madison knows how quickly things can change. Director Sean Baker cast her in ‘Anora’ after seeing her in ‘Scream 5’, and she went on to win Best Actress, proving that a strong performance can outshine a social media presence. ‘The Social Reckoning’ opens in theaters on October 9. If day 1 is any indication, Madison’s press tour will be serving plenty of fashion moments between now and then.
