Hollywood has rarely seen a corporate saga quite like this one. A bidding war, a regulatory fight, and months of uncertainty have surrounded the future of one of the industry’s oldest studios. Now, the finish line appears to be in sight for what could be the biggest media merger in years.

The stakes go far beyond a change of ownership. The deal would fold 2 century-old studio brands, a huge film library, and major news networks into a single company under David Ellison. Fans, employees, and investors have all been watching closely.

On September 30, news broke that Paramount intends to complete its acquisition of Warner Bros. next week, adding that the new name of the combined company could be announced as soon as tomorrow. The information comes from a CNN newsletter.

Ringside News, citing CNN, said the name could be unveiled as soon as October 1. Paramount is also expected to announce the leadership team before closing so employees know who is in charge on day one. Those announcements should clarify the company’s plans for CNN and CBS News, 2 of the most prominent brands in the deal.

There is a financial reason behind the speed. Ringside News reported that a costly ticking fee on the merger kicks in on October 1. It’s calculated that a closing on October 7 would mean about a week of those fees, roughly $49 million, on top of the $31 per share payout and vested equity awards.

The path here hasn’t been smooth. Last week, Paramount cleared a major hurdle by reaching a settlement with California and several other states that had challenged the merger on antitrust grounds. The company has also launched a major bond offering, with sources citing a $44 billion debt offering and an additional $7.5 billion loan syndication.

Paramount first announced the agreement on February 27, 2026, after a prolonged fight over who would acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Filings show that Paramount emerged victorious after Netflix declined to raise its own offer. The original press release highlighted a combined film library of more than 15,000 titles and thousands of hours of television programming.

Paramount has said it expects the acquisition to yield over $6 billion in synergies. The plan includes integrating technology, consolidating streaming platforms, and streamlining real estate and operations. Those figures have sparked expectations of major job cuts, with sources noting that the combined company is expected to carry about $80 billion in debt.

The name is the part fans are most curious about. The Hollywood Reporter explored the dilemma earlier this week, noting that Paramount declined to comment. One option would be to use Skydance Corporation, the name of the company Ellison founded in 2006, as the holding company for both studios and the news brands.

The publication also observed that simply stacking the existing names together would be unwieldy, since a mashup of Paramount, Skydance, and Warner Bros. would run 5 words. Paramount currently trades as PSKY on the Nasdaq and is set to move to the New York Stock Exchange in early October. No name has been confirmed in any of the sources reviewed.

Changes are already underway. Some outlets noted that Paramount’s streaming chief, Cindy Holland, has departed ahead of the new joint strategy. More leadership news is expected before the deal closes, which could reshape both studios’ creative and business operations.

For moviegoers, the practical effects won’t arrive overnight. But the decisions made in the coming days will set the tone for how franchises, streaming platforms, and theatrical releases are managed under a single roof. It’s a turning point for an industry still adjusting to the streaming era. If the reports are accurate, the wait is nearly over. The next few days should deliver a name, a leadership lineup, and a closing date for the merger.
