‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Hits Yet Another Production Snag, and Fans Are Losing Faith in Its Release Date

Few Marvel projects have carried as much weight, or as much uncertainty, as ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. The road to the Multiverse Saga finale has never been a straight line, and the film keeps finding new ways to test fan patience. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ still being finished ahead of its holiday debut, all eyes have turned to when cameras will finally roll on its follow-up.

The schedule has already shifted once at the studio level. Disney moved both ‘Avengers’ films, with ‘Doomsday’ set for December 18, 2026, and ‘Secret Wars’ shifting from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027. Behind the scenes, the start of production has been creeping later and later throughout the year.

Now the latest update suggests the wait is getting even longer. According to insider Daniel Richtman, whose report was shared by the fan account Cosmic Marvel on September 30, filming on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ has been delayed and will now begin in November. Just last week, Richtman had claimed the Russo brothers’ movie would start shooting in early October.

The report reportedly marks a 6-month slip from the original plan. The film was first expected to begin shooting in mid-2026, with April floated near the end of 2025 as the exact start month. Richtman later reported on his Patreon that production would not kick off until August.

That August window didn’t hold either. Richtman claimed the start was pushed into late September to make room for another round of additional photography on ‘Doomsday’, and the latest update now pushes it back further still. One filming tracker has listed the project as shooting in the UK in November.

The timeline math is where things get tricky. ‘Doomsday’ filmed from April to September 2025, with reshoots in spring 2026, ahead of its December release. If Richtman is correct, it’s very difficult to imagine Marvel Studios having such an ambitious movie ready for theaters by next December.

Fans have been sounding the alarm for months. Back when an August start was rumored, some predicted the film would slide to May 5, 2028, while others argued its ensemble cast, bigger than ‘Doomsday’, made a delay unavoidable. Reactions to the newest report are no different, with one user under the Cosmic Marvel post bluntly declaring that the movie isn’t making its release date.

Not everyone is ready to hit the panic button just yet. Some argue that ‘Secret Wars’ may not suffer much from these delays, since the work done on ‘Doomsday’ could ease the burden on the follow-up. Fans had previously believed the movie was already partly in production, after reports claimed Marvel shot some ‘Secret Wars’ scenes during ‘Doomsday’ reshoots and that visual effects work was underway.

It’s also important to remember that none of this is official. Marvel Studios has not commented on the start of filming for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and the studio has previously made a big deal of such milestones. That happened in April 2025, so when cameras do roll, an announcement seems likely, though whether a new release date comes with it remains to be seen.

For now, details about the story remain scarce. Early rumors suggest the plot may feature Battleworld, inspired by the comics, following Doctor Doom’s victory in ‘Doomsday’. With production pushed back again, fans will likely have to wait even longer for any concrete news on the cast, characters, or plot.
