Grey’s Anatomy Star Sophia Bush Reveals She Secretly Married Ashlyn Harris, and the Intimate Details Are Pure Sweetness

Sophia Bush has never shied away from sharing her truth, but she managed to keep one major milestone completely under wraps. The ‘One Tree Hill’ alum, whose recent credits include ‘Love, Victor’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, has been in a relationship with former soccer star Ashlyn Harris since 2023.

Now, fans are learning that Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris took their romance to the next level far earlier than anyone realized. The pair’s story has unfolded largely in the public eye. Bush first met Harris in 2019, and the two were first linked in October 2023, before making their first public appearance as a couple at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscars viewing party in March 2024.

That same spring, Bush came out as queer in a candid Glamour essay and confirmed the relationship for the first time. The actress has now revealed that she and Harris quietly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in upstate New York in summer 2025.

Bush shares the news in her forthcoming memoir, ‘And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress’. The couple opened up about the wedding to Vogue in a story published on Wednesday, September 30, alongside an excerpt from the book.

The guest list was about as small as it gets. The ceremony was attended only by Harris’ daughter Sloane, now 5, and son Ocean, 4. The private celebration included picking flowers and roasting marshmallows, with the couple aiming to create a relaxed and pressure-free experience for their family.

Bush explained to Vogue that privacy became important after years of living under public attention. She described reaching a stage in life where she began separating what belonged to her from what had always been shared with everyone else. She also noted that while performing as an athlete or an actor is a privilege, it comes with certain costs.

Once the couple told their inner circle, Bush was ready to share the news with the world. She said she eventually wanted to stop referring to Harris as her partner during public appearances, telling Harris that she was her wife and that saying it felt amazing.

Harris also weighed in on the decision to go public. She told Vogue that visibility remained important to them, stressing that the conversation was bigger than just the 2 of them. Both women serve on the board of the Human Rights Campaign and have been active supporters of LGBTQ+ causes.

Harris brings her own impressive résumé to the relationship. The former goalkeeper is a two-time World Cup champion with the U.S. women’s national team. She became the first NWSL player to reach 500 saves and retired at the end of the 2022 campaign after 12 seasons.

She shares her 2 children with fellow retired U.S. soccer player Ali Krieger. The pair split in 2023 after nearly 4 years of marriage, around the same time Bush ended her marriage to businessman Grant Hughes. Bush had also previously been married to her ‘One Tree Hill’ co-star Chad Michael Murray.

The wedding reveal is just one of the personal stories Bush is ready to share. Her memoir hits shelves on October 27, and she told People that a book agent had been encouraging her to write one for about 9 years. The timing simply hadn’t felt right until now.

With the news finally out, fans have flooded social media with congratulations for the newlyweds, more than a year after they quietly said their vows. It’s a fitting introduction to a book centered on a life still in progress.
