The finale of ‘Average Joe’ closes the book on two of its most dangerous figures while opening a far bigger threat for Joe Washington. Both Sipho and Teddy are out of the picture, Joe discovers the fortune his father left behind, and Imani finally gets the truth she spent years searching for. That is a lot of resolution for a single hour of television.

This ‘Average Joe’ finale recap and ending explained looks at how the Cape Town story wraps up and why the final phone call matters so much. The second season is set across Pittsburgh and Cape Town, and it streams on Paramount+ across eight episodes. TV Fanatic argued that the closer delivered the shootouts, betrayals and body count a finale should, while still keeping the show’s ridiculous streak intact.

Teddy and Sipho Die in the Finale

The episode opens with a flashback that reframes Imani’s search for her father. Jamila confronts Teddy, tells him the relationship is over and says she knows about his crimes and plans to contact the police, and Teddy responds by shooting her. Imani has spent much of the season trying to understand why Teddy vanished, and the answer turns out to be far worse than simple abandonment.

Back at the compound, the truth reaches her in the worst way possible. Sipho reveals that Teddy was the one who killed Jamila, and when Imani demands that her father look at her and deny it, he cannot. Any hope she held of saving something from that relationship disappears in that moment.

Help arrives from an unexpected direction. Phyllis reaches the community at R J’s Cove and persuades people there to stand with her against Sipho, which creates the confusion Joe and the others need to escape. The TV Fanatic review called Phyllis arriving to help, along with Touch and Leon going on a rampage, the show at its best.

The two villains meet different ends. Joe confronts Sipho after sending Imani toward the road, and Sipho insists Joe will bow to him before dying in the fight. Teddy’s end belongs to Imani, who shoots him right after he finally admits to killing her mother.

Why Joe Gives Cathy the Heroin

Teddy still has one last trick waiting. Joe finds a final clue inside the compass that leads him to a vineyard called Swart en Goud, where he discovers gold, money, the missing heroin and an Aston Martin. For a few minutes it looks as though the family nightmare might finally pay off.

Cathy has other plans. She arrives with a gun after working out the vineyard clue herself, but Joe had already anticipated her and asked Leon and Touch to cover him. Teddy had even tried to buy her loyalty earlier, as he claimed the shipment was 700 kilos worth about $84 million and offered her half if she removed Imani from the picture.

Joe resolves the standoff with a deal. He proposes that he, Leon and Touch split the gold and money, that Touch keeps the car and that Cathy takes the entire heroin shipment. His reasoning is that none of the three men is a drug dealer, while Cathy already understands that world and is determined to have the shipment anyway.

The deal also marks a break between Leon and Cathy. Earlier in the episode Leon tells her that if they survive he wants a divorce, and he later steps between Cathy and Imani and tells her she will have to shoot him first. It shows a man who has finally stopped organizing his life around her choices.

Angela and Jennifer Ending Explained

The celebration does not last. Joe receives a call on Angela’s phone from an unknown woman who says her people are holding Angela and Jennifer, and that the FBI agent protecting them has already been killed. The call changes the scale of the story, because Sipho was only one part of a much larger operation.

The caller makes her demand plainly. She says she speaks for the heroin’s rightful owners and wants its location in exchange for Joe’s family, but Joe refuses and asks to speak with them. Jennifer briefly comes on the line, and then the woman orders her people to kill both of them while Joe hears screaming followed by two gunshots.

The finale stops short of confirming what happened. The episode never shows either woman being shot and offers no scene afterward to verify their fate. In a series that has leaned on fake deaths and hidden truths, that gap leaves room for a reveal that Angela and Jennifer survived.

That uncertainty also hangs over the show’s future. TV Fanatic noted there is no confirmation of another season, but said that if one arrives the core four would have to team up again to avenge or free the captured women. Joe’s decision to hand over the heroin now looks like a choice he may regret.

What Comes Next for Joe and the Core Four

The quieter aftermath gives the finale some emotional weight. Jamila is laid to rest with Imani grateful that her maiden name is used, and Joe gives Imani time alone at the grave. The scene lets the season honor the woman whose death drove so much of the story.

The characters also sketch out lives that the final call threatens to wreck. Leon plans to return to Pittsburgh and try the hardware store again, Imani and Phyllis plan a road trip to learn about Jamila’s roots, and Joe intends to stay a few more days before trying to repair things with Angela and Jennifer.

The ending also circles back to where the season began. The second season started with Joe traveling to Africa because someone threatened his family, and it ends in almost the same place emotionally, with Teddy’s final inheritance proving more dangerous than the man himself. If you were standing in that vineyard with Joe, would you have handed Cathy the heroin, and do you believe the gunshots he heard on Angela’s phone were real?
