Doctor Doom Ascends to a Glowing Latverian Throne in Striking New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster
Marvel’s marketing campaign for its next team-up has been built almost entirely around one figure, and it isn’t a hero. With every new piece of art, the studio has doubled down on Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom as the face of the film. The latest ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ poster continues that trend in spectacular, ominous fashion.
The campaign’s focus has been clear since the summer. When a new poster arrived following Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Bleeding Cool noted that the studio had so far stuck to a pattern of focusing only on Doom.
In August, another one-sheet surfaced showing a more thoughtful, brooding version of the villain ahead of D23. Now, a Spanish-language poster for the film has started circulating online, shared by the fan account drdoomarchive, which says it came from Comic Con Málaga.
The artwork shows Doom from behind, cloaked and hooded, climbing a long staircase toward a towering citadel glowing in eerie green light. Hooded figures stand on either side of the steps, prompting the fan account to excitedly call them Doom’s Latverian witches.
The poster carries the film’s Spanish title, ‘Vengadores: Doomsday’, along with a Marvel Studios logo. Its tagline confirms the December 18 release date and promises the film will play only in cinemas. The fan post quickly gained traction.
The setting is a big deal for longtime fans. In Marvel’s comics, Latveria is a small, isolated European country ruled by Doom himself, with much of its economy depending on his high-tech inventions. Seeing it rendered as a sprawling, almost mystical fortress suggests the film will lean heavily into Doom’s role as a ruler, not just a villain.

That idea has already shown up in the footage. The exclusive Comic-Con trailer reportedly opened with Doom seated on his imposing throne in Latveria. In the same footage, Sue Storm narrates that Victor was once kind and caring before everything he loved was taken from him.
The glimpses of Doom’s power have been equally dramatic. In the Comic-Con footage, Thor confronts Doom, but the villain catches his weapon and throws it aside with ease before using magic to toss the god of thunder away. The clip ends with Doom placing his hand on the ground and resurrecting an army of Sentinels.
More footage followed at D23. Kevin Feige presented a new special preview on stage alongside Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell, and the event also featured another official poster. Atwell’s return as Peggy Carter was confirmed as part of the film’s growing list of surprises.

The scale of the film continues to grow. The cast is headlined by Downey Jr. as Doom, alongside Avengers stars like Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, and Simu Liu. Fox’s ‘X-Men’ cast is also crossing over, with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Channing Tatum returning.
The story is set to bring together heroes from 3 distinct universes facing an existential threat unlike anything they’ve encountered. Anthony and Joe Russo return to direct, having helmed ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’.
With release less than 3 months away, Marvel’s promotional push is clearly ramping up worldwide. International posters like this one suggest the studio is keeping the spotlight firmly on its villain as December approaches.
For fans, every new image of Latveria adds fuel to theories about Doom’s grand plan. Whether those hooded figures turn out to be witches, loyal subjects, or something else entirely, the poster has done exactly what it set out to do: build anticipation.
