‘Real Men’ Season 1 Recap and How the Four Friends Fare After the Finale
The ‘Real Men’ recap begins with four middle aged friends in modern day Rome who feel increasingly displaced by the rise of gender equality. The Italian series, titled Maschi Veri in its original language, was directed by Letizia Lamartire and Matteo Oleotto and released globally on May 22, 2025.
The show is a remake of the Spanish production ‘Alpha Males’. It follows Luigi, Mattia, Riccardo and Massimo as they reluctantly join a workshop aimed at unlearning entrenched notions of manhood. This first season recap walks through where each friend and partner lands by the end, so spoilers are ahead.
Mattia and Emma Reshape a Stalled Divorce
Mattia has separated from his wife, Federica, and the two are stuck in a deadlock over the sale of certain property. One recap reads his stalling as a sign that he still loves her and cannot picture his life without her. Early in the season he also endures a disastrous date.
His daughter Emma moves in with him after an argument with her mother, and she has him set up a Tinder account with a rule that meeting ten different women would help him move on. Mattia is also the friend who asks the group to attend the class on deconstructing toxic masculinity, even though the others are averse to the idea.
The twist arrives when Mattia and Federica meet to submit their divorce papers. Federica notices that he has matured, and the two share an intimate moment. Mattia does not tell Emma about it by the end, which leaves his future with Federica open.
Luigi and Tiziana Find Their Way Back
Luigi is shown as an affectionate and perceptive husband and father who never cheats on or disrespects his wife. Tiziana is still unhappy because she craves physical intimacy that he struggles to provide. One early episode sees him try the little blue pill, though his efforts to rekindle his love life do not go as planned.
During an island getaway by boat, Tiziana gets dangerously close to her gym instructor. While Luigi is away on the boys trip, she kisses her trainer. She later tells Luigi she needs time apart, and he soon works out that another man is involved.
Rather than chase his wife, Luigi focuses on himself, improving his diet and working out regularly. At his son’s birthday party in a house he rented from Massimo, he shares an intimate moment with Tiziana, and the couple get back together.
Riccardo and Ilenia Part Ways After a Hidden Affair
Riccardo is having an affair with Valentina, the wife of his business partner Carlos. Meanwhile, his wife Ilenia asks him to open their marriage, and he reacts badly. She later issues an ultimatum that sends him into desperate flirting.
Carlos catches Riccardo with Valentina and asks him to sell his shares and leave the business. Ilenia accompanies him to sign the documents because the shares are in her name, and she overhears a conversation that reveals he has been cheating for a long time.
Ilenia decides to part ways with him and sells his entire share in the business for a dollar. By the ending, Riccardo is making plans to open another business and shows no apparent guilt, which suggests he has learned little.
Massimo and Daniela Collide Over Success and Ego
The first episode sends Massimo from big shot to jobless. The recap notes that he had produced shows and approved scripts that offended many people. His partner Daniela begins posting fitness and health videos that go viral, and sponsors soon approach her.
After rebelling in the workshop, Massimo starts his own course, which causes tension at home. He gains a large following, but Daniela is trolled once her audience learns she is his partner. Her manager leaves her and she loses her brand deals.
Daniela tells viewers on a show that she does not approve of her partner’s ideology, and in the ending she leaves him for good. The final episode asks whether the real men of Rome are back on top. Netflix announced a second season renewal in September 2025, with Matteo Oleotto and Milena Cocozza set to direct.
