‘The Simpsons’ Season 38 Episode 3 Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Preview
The third episode of the new season of ‘The Simpsons’ pivots toward Halloween earlier than usual. Wikipedia lists it as ‘Treehouse of Horror Presents The Revengening,’ the 812th episode overall, with an original air date of October 18, 2026. That makes it the first holiday flavored outing of the run, and it arrives a week before the main Halloween special.
This guide covers the release date, air time, streaming options and preview details for the next ‘The Simpsons’ episode. It also addresses a few conflicting listings that fans may run into while searching for exact scheduling information.
Release Date for the Next ‘The Simpsons’ Episode
Most episode guides point to Sunday, October 18 for the premiere. Wikisimpsons lists the same date for the episode, and TVmaze also places it on Sunday, October 18.
Not every listing agrees, however. Rotten Tomatoes shows the episode with an October 12 release date. An older guide from The TV IV places a different title, ‘The Kosmic Kruiser,’ in the October 18 slot.
The more recent sources favor ‘The Revengening’ on October 18. Comic Basics concluded that the weight of the evidence supports that title and date. A fan account tracking the franchise also reported that the episode would air on October 18, ahead of the main Treehouse special on October 25.
The episode follows a recent installment in the schedule. ‘Diary of a Chimpy Kid’ aired on Sunday, October 4, and Wikisimpsons lists the Halloween episode directly after it in the season order.
Air Time and Episode Length
New episodes of the season premiere at 8 PM ET/PT on Sundays. TVmaze lists the Halloween episode at 20:00 on its Sunday airdate, with a half hour runtime. That matches the pattern of the previous episode, which was scheduled from 8:00 to 8:31 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
The episode carries a TV-14 rating and airs on Fox. Viewers planning to watch live should check local listings, since regional affiliates handle the broadcast.
The season itself is on a lighter schedule than in past years. It features fifteen episodes, along with two additional episodes ordered exclusively for Disney+. That structure comes from a renewal that ordered fifteen episodes per season, plus two Disney+ exclusives, through the fortieth season.
Where to Watch the Episode Online and on TV
The first option is the Fox broadcast itself. For viewers without cable, Tom’s Guide notes the season can be streamed on Fox One, which offers a trial period.
Streaming options extend beyond Fox. Rotten Tomatoes says the season can be watched with a subscription on Disney+ or Hulu, or purchased through Fandango. The season is also listed as airing on Fox, with select episodes on Disney+.
Next day streaming appears to be the pattern. Reports on the main Halloween special say it will be available on Hulu the following day, and the same was reported for the season premiere. Listings do not yet confirm the streaming date for this particular episode, so it is worth checking Hulu after the broadcast.
Episode Preview and the Halloween Lineup
The premise is a clear departure from the usual anthology format. The official description says a killer comes to Springfield and hacks a path through town on Halloween, and that no Simpson is safe. That points toward a slasher parody built around a single story.
The creative team and guest list offer some context. Matt Selman is listed as showrunner, and Gustavo Dudamel guest stars as himself. The conductor joins a season guest roster that also includes Emma Thompson, Henry Winkler and Rachel Bloom. The regular voice cast includes Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer.
The episode also sets up a second Halloween event. ‘Treehouse of Horror XXXVII’ follows on October 25 with three segments, including one where Homer ends up trapped in endless murderous Driver’s Ed films by witch versions of Patty and Selma. One fan account noted that this could mean another year with two Treehouse specials.
With a full length slasher story arriving in Springfield a week ahead of the traditional anthology, ‘The Simpsons’ is giving horror fans two Halloween nights to consider. Which classic horror film would you most like to see ‘The Revengening’ parody, and does a single story hold up better than the usual three segments?
