‘Argylle’ Star Bryce Dallas Howard’s Resurfaced Body-Positivity Message Is the Confidence Boost Fans Didn’t Know They Needed
Few Hollywood stars have been as consistently candid about body image as Bryce Dallas Howard. The ‘Jurassic World’ actress and director, born in Los Angeles in 1981 to filmmaker Ron Howard and writer Cheryl Howard, has spent years speaking openly about the pressures placed on women’s bodies in the entertainment industry.
Those pressures have followed her throughout her career. In 2022, while discussing the third ‘Jurassic World’ film, she told Metro that director Colin Trevorrow protected her when studio bosses once again raised the idea of asking her to lose weight.
Now one of her most joyful moments of self-acceptance is making the rounds again. A post on X resurfaced Howard’s declaration that she loves her butt, a line she delivered during a 2018 interview with TODAY, shared alongside red carpet photos from the ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Pete’s Dragon’ premieres.
The full interview was about much more than a cheeky soundbite. Howard recalled that early in her career, she couldn’t fit into the clothes that were available to her. “I remember thinking to myself, ‘Oh man, if I didn’t have like, these childbearing hips or whatever,'” she said in that same conversation.
“And then when I actually had my children, I was very happy that I had childbearing hips because that went very well.” She also offered practical advice. “Something doesn’t fit you, then it’s the clothes problem. It’s not your problem,” Howard said, adding, “You don’t change yourself for the clothes.”

Howard’s suggestion for anyone struggling with body confidence was refreshingly simple. She encouraged women to think about what they would say to their best friend, and to talk to themselves the same way. Her closing words summed up her philosophy. “Move on and live your life and enjoy your body,” she said.

The photos accompanying the resurfaced post show Howard at 2 of her biggest premieres. In one, she wears a navy gown with gold chain detailing across an open back at the ‘Jurassic World’ premiere, and in the other, a fitted leopard-print dress for ‘Pete’s Dragon’.
Howard’s frustration with fashion went beyond fit. Back in 2017, she told Elle Australia she once received a $40,000 wardrobe bill on a publicity tour because stylists couldn’t borrow designer samples in her size and had to buy the clothes instead.
Her solution was to take control. Howard began buying her own red carpet outfits, wearing a $320 Topshop dress to the Critics’ Choice Awards and an off-the-rack Jenny Packham gown from Neiman Marcus at the Golden Globes.
That relatable approach earned her plenty of admiration. It also reinforced the message she has carried for years: the problem was never her body. More recently, Howard drew a firm line. In a 2024 interview with People, she said she had retired from talking about her body, explaining that her focus is now on what her body can do and what it is capable of.
She also described herself as someone whose body fluctuates, and said she now has upfront conversations with those hiring her. If a role requires her to look different, they can either cast her as she is or choose someone else.
Howard’s résumé speaks for itself. She made her debut in her father’s 1989 comedy ‘Parenthood’, broke out in M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘The Village ‘, and has since directed episodes of several ‘Star Wars’ series along with the documentary ‘Pets’. Her resurfaced words continue to resonate because they’re both funny and genuinely empowering. More than 8 years later, her message still feels just as relevant.
