‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 14 Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Preview

‘Chicago P.D.’ returns to NBC on Wednesday, October 7, at 10/9c, following one of the longer offseasons in recent memory. The new season arrives with one of the show’s biggest ethical cliffhangers still unresolved and with a longtime cast member preparing to exit.

Anyone searching for the ‘Chicago P.D.’ release date, premiere time and streaming options will find the answers are simple. NBC has confirmed that all of the One Chicago shows will continue airing in parallel on Wednesdays. Early previews from the cast also indicate that the premiere picks up three months after the finale.

‘Chicago P.D.’ Release Date After a Long Offseason

The previous season finale aired on May 13, 2026. NBC had already renewed the drama on Friday, March 27.

The renewal was not considered a major surprise, since the series remains a ratings hit for the network and finished ahead of other renewed shows among adults 18-49 and in total viewers. That performance helps explain why the franchise has held its place on the fall schedule.

Production on the new season was set to begin July 23, which marked the first major milestone on the road to the October return. Marina Squerciati later shared a photo from set as filming got underway. The date also fits the franchise’s traditional pattern of returning in late September or early October.

Premiere Time Within the One Chicago Lineup

The new season airs in its usual 10/9c slot on Wednesday nights on NBC. That places ‘Chicago P.D.’ at the end of a three hour block that viewers have come to treat as a weekly habit.

‘Chicago Med’ returns for its twelfth season at 8/7c, and ‘Chicago Fire’ returns for its fifteenth season at 9/8c. The shows will continue to air together throughout the season.

That consistency matters for a franchise built on routine. Even so, viewers should expect some familiar faces to miss episodes from time to time. The cost cutting measures introduced across the One Chicago shows before last season remain in effect.

Where to Watch ‘Chicago P.D.’ Live and on Demand

Viewers can watch the series live on NBC, and it can also be watched live online with a Peacock subscription in most areas. New episodes are available to stream on Peacock the next day.

All 13 seasons of ‘Chicago P.D.’ are available to stream on Peacock with a subscription, and episodes can also be purchased through Amazon Prime and Apple TV.

Anyone who needs a refresher before the premiere has the entire run in one place. The most recent finale is the episode worth revisiting, because the new season builds directly on its final scene.

Preview of the Voight and Imani Fallout and Atwater’s Exit

The previous finale centered on Eva Imani and the search for her missing sister, Shari, who was unable to remember her family and remained loyal to her trafficker, Russ Kirby. Voight killed Kirby, and the closing scene saw Imani asking whether her sister would be charged with murder. The season ended before viewers learned Voight’s decision, leaving him to choose between following the law and protecting a victim whose life had been stolen from her.

According to TV Insider, the premiere reveals whether Voight turns Shari in and explores new territory for the sisters, with Arienne Mandi saying that “It’s in her nature to be hopeful.” The episode also has Intelligence investigating a parole officer’s shooting while Voight is forced to let an outsider into the office.

LaRoyce Hawkins, who has played Kevin Atwater since the show’s first episode, is leaving, and he is expected to appear in two or three episodes to tie off the character’s storyline. TV Guide suggests the pregnancy of his girlfriend, Tasha Fox, played by Karen Obilom, could provide the easiest off-ramp. Jesse Lee Soffer is set to direct the second episode, which would mark his fourth turn behind the camera.

The unit will also need a new face. Deadline reported that the show was casting a series regular described as “a Black cop who is an agent of chaos.” The core team of Voight, Burgess, Ruzek, Imani, Torres and Platt is otherwise set to return. With Atwater heading out and Voight still holding the choice he left unanswered, do you want him to bury the evidence to protect Shari, or does Imani deserve to see her sister answer to the law?
