Two New ‘Harry Potter’ Books Are Coming in 2027, Spotlighting Professor McGonagall and the Weasley Twins
It has been a big year for anyone who grew up waiting for their Hogwarts letter. Fans have spent months enjoying the Audible Full-Cast Audio Editions of the ‘Harry Potter’ books, and the first trailer has arrived for HBO’s new series adaptation.
That show, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, premieres on HBO Max this Christmas. With a whole new generation about to discover the Wizarding World on screen, publisher Bloomsbury is giving them plenty to read alongside it.
Now J.K. Rowling’s literary world is expanding again. Bloomsbury has confirmed 2 new ‘Harry Potter’ books in its ‘Pocket Potters’ collection, centered on Professor Minerva McGonagall and the Weasley twins, Fred and George, arriving on February 23, 2027.
It’s worth clarifying that these aren’t new novels. ‘Pocket Potters’ are short, illustrated mini-guides aimed at younger readers, each running 32 pages in hardcover. The collectible books are packed with story moments, quotes, and fun information about beloved characters from the original novels. They’re designed as colorful, spoiler-free introductions to the Wizarding World.
The first new title, ‘Pocket Potters: Professor McGonagall’, is illustrated by Natalie Smillie. It explores the formidable head of Gryffindor House and her role at Hogwarts. According to its description, the guide will look at why she gives Harry his first broomstick, the Nimbus 2000, and which animal she can transform into.
It will also explore her relationships with Harry and her fellow professors, her fierce loyalty to the school and the dry sense of humor hiding beneath that pointed hat. The second book, ‘Pocket Potters: Fred and George Weasley’, is illustrated by Helen Brady. As expected, it leans heavily into the twins’ mischievous side.
Readers will follow their prank-filled years at Hogwarts, their knowledge of the castle’s secret passages and magical inventions like Canary Creams. The guide also covers their decision to leave school and open Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley.
The new releases join existing ‘Pocket Potters’ titles dedicated to Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore and Luna Lovegood. Earlier this year, the collection also added books on Rubeus Hagrid and Dobby.
With these latest additions, the series is building into a sizable library of character guides. Fans have already started speculating about which Hogwarts favorite could be next. Both books will be published in the UK on February 23. They are available to pre-order now through Bloomsbury, with the standard hardback listed at £10 and a current pre-order price of £7.
The guides are aimed at readers aged around 7 and up. That makes them a natural fit for younger fans being introduced to the story through the new HBO series. The timing is no accident. The books’ marketing directly ties them to the upcoming HBO Original Series, hoping to catch newcomers just as they fall under the Hogwarts spell.
For longtime fans, the guides offer a nostalgic, collectible way to revisit favorite characters. McGonagall and the Weasley twins have long been among the most beloved figures in the saga, making them obvious choices for the spotlight.
With the HBO series launching at Christmas and these new titles following just 2 months later, the Wizarding World looks set for a busy stretch. For fans of all ages, there’s plenty of magic still to come.
Which ‘Harry Potter’ character would you most like to see get their own ‘Pocket Potters’ guide next?
