Jessica Chastain has spent weeks building buzz for her new horror film. From a viral demonstration of the creepy Other Mommy smile on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ to a series of Q&As and interviews, the Oscar winner has been one of the busiest stars on the promotional circuit.

The film, directed by Rob Savage, casts Chastain in a dual role as Bela’s mother and the sinister entity that takes her appearance. After a trailer that famously rattled audiences, ‘Other Mommy’ finally opened in theaters on Friday, October 9.

On the eve of its release, Chastain celebrated with fans. She stepped out for the ‘Other Mommy’ fan screening on Thursday night at Universal Cinema AMC in Los Angeles, debuting a sleek new look that had photographers snapping away.

For the occasion, Chastain wore a chartreuse satin mini dress by Monse. The asymmetric design featured a draped, one-shoulder neckline and dramatic gathering at the hip, giving the silhouette plenty of movement.

She paired the dress with strappy metallic sandals and kept her accessories minimal. Her brand-new blonde bob, styled with soft volume, completed the polished yet playful look. In photos from the event, Chastain smiled and waved to fans as she made her way inside.

The vibrant shade stood out against the film’s dark promotional backdrop, a fun contrast to the eerie tone of the movie. Chastain wasn’t alone at the screening. She was joined by co-stars Jay Duplass and Arabella Olivia Clark, who plays Bela, along with director Rob Savage.

The event was part of a fan screening celebrating BlumFest. Attendees were treated to exclusive bonus content on screen before the feature began. The film follows Bela, an 8-year-old living in a house strained by her parents’ marital troubles.

When a sinister presence begins crawling out of her closet wearing her mother’s face, she names it Other Mommy, and the entity becomes a growing threat to her entire family. Based on Josh Malerman’s novel ‘Incidents Around the House’, the film was produced by James Wan through Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. It runs 1 hour and 33 minutes and is rated R.

While Chastain’s look won praise, early reactions to the film itself have been rocky. Universal held off on US critics’ screenings until the last minute, and some first reactions from international viewers and critics have been harsh.

Several reviews criticized the reliance on jump scares and the screenplay, though many still praised Chastain’s commitment to her dual role. One critic noted that she is great in the lead even if the film struggles to deliver dramatically.

Despite the mixed buzz, ‘Other Mommy’ is still expected to lead the weekend box office. The film is tracking toward an opening of around $20 million. The film’s viral marketing campaign appears to have driven strong ticket sales. Fans will now get to decide for themselves whether it lives up to its terrifying trailer.

Online, fans praised Chastain’s bright dress and fresh blonde bob as one of the standout looks of her press tour. Many said the playful styling was the perfect counterbalance to the dark film she was promoting. As ‘Other Mommy’ arrives in theaters, Chastain has certainly made sure the promotional campaign ends on a stylish note.
