Share:

Crunchyroll announced the television anime adaptation of ‘The Boxer’ at its showcase during New York Comic Con on October 8, and the series is in production. The announcement brought a teaser trailer along with the principal cast and creative staff.

The ‘The Boxer’ anime now has a confirmed home and a visible creative team, yet the biggest question for viewers remains unanswered. Here is what has been confirmed so far about its premiere, its streaming plans and the footage released to date.

‘The Boxer’ Anime Release Date and Time

A premiere date for the series had not been announced as of the time of reporting. Crunchyroll has confirmed its streaming plans, but an exact premiere window remains unknown. Promotional posts around the trailer say only that the series is coming soon to Crunchyroll.

Coverage of the announcement does not mention a broadcast slot, so there is no confirmed airtime to share. Viewers hoping to plan around a weekly time will need to wait for a formal schedule from the production.

The project has been a long time coming. An earlier announcement had pointed to an anime release in the second half of 2025 from the Korean studio XTORM. By May 2025 one fan account noted that no updates or release dates had followed, and asked whether the project was still alive.

The episode count is also unsettled. An earlier listing on the XTORM site pointed to 12 episodes of 24 minutes each. More recent coverage states that the episode count has not been announced.

Where to Watch ‘The Boxer’ Anime

Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream the anime. The platform also debuted an English subtitled trailer during its showcase panel at the convention.

Availability may depend on location. Under the new partnership behind the project, Crunchyroll will exclusively stream the resulting anime in select territories. A French report describes the series as coming exclusively to Crunchyroll worldwide. Viewers will want to check the platform’s regional listings closer to the premiere.

The series sits inside a larger plan. Crunchyroll announced a partnership with HAYATE and LINE Digital Frontier Corporation, a subsidiary of WEBTOON Entertainment, to develop anime from around 15 select WEBTOON series. The announced titles include ‘The Boxer’, ‘The Remarried Empress’ and ‘Teenage Mercenary’.

‘The Boxer’ Anime Trailer and Preview

A special announcement trailer was revealed at the Crunchyroll Showcase alongside the main cast and production staff. One summary of the reveal describes the footage as a promotional trailer that gives fans their first glimpse of the adaptation. Key visuals released with the announcement show the protagonist Yu, the rival Ryu, and a scene where Yu is injured while J kneels in front of him.

The premise follows a familiar sports drama arc built around an unusual talent. A legendary boxing trainer discovers Yu, a boy with a monstrous gift, and decides to turn him into a world champion. Yu is described as a boxer whose overwhelming natural ability lets him rise rapidly through the sport.

The story comes from a widely read source. The manhwa was serialized in Korean on the Naver Webtoon platform from December 2019 to June 2022. Promotional material for the anime cites more than 1.06 billion cumulative views for the webtoon.

Cast and Staff Behind ‘The Boxer’ Anime

Koki Uchiyama will voice Yu, and Kensho Ono will voice Ryu, the naturally gifted boxer who becomes Yu’s first opponent. Tomokazu Seki will play the legendary trainer K, while Toshiyuki Toyonaga voices J, a legendary boxer who has already retired.

Behind the scenes, Kubota and KANG Wonyeong are directing, Masahiro Suwa is handling character designs, and Toshiya Ono is in charge of series composition and scripts. Suwa is known for the first five seasons of ‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’, while Ono’s credits include ’86 EIGHTY-SIX’ and ‘Shadows House’.

The animation work has changed hands since the earlier announcement. The anime is being animated by the new studio breccia, founded by Muneki Ogasawara, together with the Korea based Studio Jemi. HAYATE, a production venture from Aniplex and Crunchyroll, is producing, and BLUE RIGHTS is serving as creative producer. XTORM, the studio first tied to the project, is now listed among the coproducers.

With the studio, director and cast all new to the project, the open question is how faithfully this team will translate the webtoon’s boxing rivalries to the screen, and whether Uchiyama’s take on Yu matches the Yu you pictured while reading, so which fight from the webtoon are you most eager to see animated first?
