Marvel’s Westview saga began in 2021 with ‘WandaVision’, a bold, sitcom-inspired series that earned widespread acclaim. ‘Agatha All Along’ expanded that world in 2024, and now Paul Bettany is returning as the White Vision to bring the trilogy to a close.

‘VisionQuest’, led by showrunner Terry Matalas, premieres on Disney+ on October 14. The series follows the synthezoid as he fights to regain his humanity and memories, while James Spader returns as Ultron, his villainous creator.

With the review embargo now lifted, critics have delivered their verdict, and the response is largely positive. ‘VisionQuest’ currently holds an 85% average Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a Certified Fresh rating.

The score has shifted as more reviews have arrived. The series reportedly opened at a perfect 100% before settling in the high 80s, and it now sits just below ‘WandaVision’ at 92% and slightly above ‘Agatha All Along’ at 84%.

The Popcornmeter has yet to arrive, as audiences will only be able to weigh in once the show premieres. That means fan reaction could still shift the conversation in the days ahead.

If there’s one point most critics agree on, it’s the strength of the central performances. Reviewers have singled out Bettany and Spader again and again, praising their electric chemistry as Vision and Ultron.

ComicBookMovie gave the series a perfect score, calling it one of the best MCU stories ever told and highlighting both actors’ masterful work. Nerdist went even further, arguing that the show completed the best trilogy in the MCU.

The Daily Telegraph noted that the pair’s scenes crackle with chemistry. Other critics praised Spader’s Ultron as fierce, funny and fiendish all at once. Many reviews describe ‘VisionQuest’ as a worthy conclusion to the trilogy. Several critics noted that the series succeeds in tugging at the heartstrings, particularly in its final episodes.

ComingSoon called it a unique, contemplative sci-fi thriller. RogerEbert.com found it charmingly enthralling, praising its balance of light and darkness. Some critics also highlighted an inventive late sequence that borrows from the sitcom style of ‘WandaVision’. That callback seems likely to delight longtime fans.

The reviews aren’t unanimously glowing. Rolling Stone argued the series lacks a clear sense of vision, while Variety felt it struggled to connect emotionally despite its playful moments.

IndieWire gave the show a C grade, suggesting it isn’t as complex or unique as it aims to be. Even some positive reviews mentioned an uneven second half and difficulty balancing multiple storylines.

‘VisionQuest’ arrives at an important time for the studio. It is currently the last new live-action Marvel series on the Disney+ schedule. Bettany has called the show a huge creative swing and a springboard for where Vision might go next.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arriving in December and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following in 2027, fans are eager to see how the series fits into Marvel’s bigger plans. All eyes now turn to the premiere on October 14.

Once the series debuts, audiences will finally be able to decide whether it lives up to the critical praise. For now, the strong reviews suggest Marvel has delivered a fitting end to one of its most beloved storylines. Bettany and Spader alone may be reason enough to tune in.
