Doctor Doom Takes Over an Argentine Movie Theater Ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Marvel’s marketing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has gone global, with Doctor Doom appearing in cinemas and expos from Shanghai to the Philippines. With the film just weeks away, Marvel Studios is making sure moviegoers everywhere know Doom is coming.
The latest stop shows how far the campaign now reaches. Theater lobbies around the world have become part of the build-up, and the newest display is getting plenty of attention from fans online.
A new Doctor Doom statue is now on display at a movie theater in Argentina, in photos shared by Cosmic Marvel via @drdoomarchive. The figure stands with its arms crossed inside a lit glass case topped with the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo.
The case gives off a green glow, and a circular sigil printed on the floor surrounds the base. The sign below reads “16 de diciembre, solo en cines,” confirming that the film opens in Argentine theaters on December 16, 2 days before its U.S. release.
The statue gives fans a detailed look at Doom’s costume. It features silver armor, a dark green hooded cloak, a wide belt with a square buckle, and a metal mask with glowing green eyes. It’s the kind of display fans will want to photograph before they buy their tickets, and the green lighting adds to Doom’s imposing presence in the theater.

Argentina is only one stop in a much larger campaign. In Shanghai, Marvel displayed a giant replica of Doom’s throne at an expo before later unveiling a massive Doctor Doom monument that drew attention online. A version of the throne display was also brought to the Philippines.
In the U.S., an AMC standee shows Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom seated on his throne with the tagline “12.18.26 is Doomsday.” Cinemark is also selling a Doctor Doom head popcorn bucket with glowing green eyes and a collectible cup showing Doom on his throne.
The merchandise push goes beyond theaters. Hot Toys has revealed a detailed figure and costume display, and Iron Studios has unveiled quarter-scale Doctor Doom statues. Funko’s Concept Series collectible calls the character “Lord Doom” and shows him in a green military-style uniform with gold detailing.
Pop Secret has also released new key art of Doom as part of its Marvel Studios partnership, adding to the steady stream of promotional material leading up to release. The biggest draw is Downey’s return to the MCU as Victor von Doom, which was announced in July 2024 alongside the return of directors Joe and Anthony Russo.
Downey reportedly said he would return only if the Russos directed, and he developed his own backstory for the character while contributing ideas for the costume. The film brings together a huge cast. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn lead the Fantastic Four, while Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd and Letitia Wright represent the Avengers.
Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and James Marsden return from the X-Men films, and Chris Evans is also back as Steve Rogers. The marketing appears to be working. Premium-format advance sales reached $16.5 million in the first 24 hours in July, more than double the pre-sales for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. By early September, pre-sales had reached $50 million, 100 days before release.

Some projections call for a domestic opening of $260 million to $300 million. The film runs about 165 minutes, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on December 17, 2027. With the release date approaching, Doom is showing up in more and more theaters around the world.
The Argentine display is another sign of how much Marvel is betting on Downey’s villain. For fans in Argentina, the statue offers a first look at the character before he arrives on screen on December 16.
