‘Haunted Hotel’ Showrunner Matt Roller Already Has Another Season Written, but Netflix Still Needs To Check In
Netflix’s animated horror comedy ‘Haunted Hotel’ has quietly built a devoted following since its debut in September 2025. Created by ‘Rick and Morty’ alum Matt Roller and animated by Titmouse, the series follows a single mother who runs “the world’s most haunted hotel” alongside her ghost brother, her 2 kids, and a demon trapped in a little boy’s body.
The voice cast includes Will Forte as Nathan, Eliza Coupe as Katherine, Skyler Gisondo as Ben, Natalie Palamides as Esther, and Jimmi Simpson as Abaddon. Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna serve as executive producers alongside Roller and Steve Levy, with Erica Hayes as supervising director.
Season 2 arrived on October 9 with 8 new episodes, and Roller is already looking ahead. Speaking with Sonny Bunch on The Bulwark Goes to Hollywood, he revealed that the scripts for Season 3 are finished, even though Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the show yet.
Roller didn’t hold back his enthusiasm about the next batch of episodes. “Yeah, we have it all. And I’m very excited about it,” he said. He’s also eyeing a familiar release window if Netflix gives the go-ahead. “In the event of a renewal, season three will be before Halloween 2027,” Roller explained, which would keep the show’s spooky-season tradition alive.

The planned third season would return to 10 episodes, matching Season 1 and expanding on Season 2’s shorter 8-episode run. Episodes will continue to work as standalone stories, which Roller said was part of his original vision for the series.
Finished scripts don’t guarantee a renewal, and Roller was careful not to get ahead of himself. “I feel good about it. I don’t have currently more information than anyone else,” he said.
He explained that the streamer’s decisions depend heavily on viewership. “In the Netflix model… you don’t get the next season until they see the numbers on the prior season,” Roller noted.
That’s why he’s urging fans to tune in quickly. “If you’re at all interested in the show, watch it now because Netflix really values those first two weeks of viewership,” he said. The quick turnaround between seasons is unusual for animation. Roller said the team wrote some episodes before Season 1 even came out, which made a 1-year turnaround possible.
The production also saved time by reducing rounds of storyboarding and recording scratch audio themselves. That efficiency has allowed the show to keep pace with its Halloween release strategy.

Roller believes the show is only getting stronger as it goes. “Our world is more lived in and real to us,” he said. “I think we’re painting a richer version of our characters, and even more so in season three.”
Season 2 leaned into the ghosts’ emotional lives, especially Nathan, introduced Dante Crowe, and gave Stabby Paul a tragic backstory. Roller has called the episode “Ghost Day Out” the show’s strongest yet.
When asked, Netflix had no updates on the show’s future. For comparison, Season 1 was renewed just a week after its debut, but Season 2’s renewal decision is still pending. Season 1 was a hit for the streamer, charting in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 and appearing in the daily Top 10s of 59 countries.
Season 2 has made the daily Top 10s in 36 countries, but it has yet to crack the weekly global charts, so the coming days could be crucial. With the scripts already done, the creative team is ready to move quickly if Netflix commits. For now, the fate of the hotel and its spectral residents rests largely in viewers’ hands.
Do you want Netflix to renew Haunted Hotel for Season 3, especially now that the scripts are already finished?
