Nathan Fielder’s Elizabeth Holmes Documentary ‘You Can See Everything’ Is Now the Year’s Best-Reviewed Film
Nathan Fielder has built a career on blurring the line between performance and reality, and few subjects suit that obsession better than Elizabeth Holmes. The Theranos founder was convicted on 4 counts of fraud and conspiracy, sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison, and reported to a federal facility in May 2023.
Fielder teamed with documentarian Lance Oppenheim, whose credits include ‘Some Kind of Heaven’, the HBO series ‘Ren Faire’ and the upcoming Robert Pattinson film ‘Primetime’, to tell her story in a way only they could. Their A24 documentary, ‘You Can See Everything’, was kept under wraps for years before a surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.
Now that critics have weighed in, the result is historic. ‘You Can See Everything’ currently holds a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from 76 reviews and a 98 Metascore on Metacritic from 31 critics, making it the highest-rated film of the year on both sites, as Film Updates noted.
The acclaim isn’t limited to critics. The film also boasts a 99% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes from more than 100 verified audience ratings. Metacritic labels its reception “Universal Acclaim,” a rare distinction for any film, let alone a documentary. For a project that runs 2 hours and 54 minutes, keeping both critics and audiences this enthusiastic is no small feat.

The R-rated film opened in theaters on October 16. No streaming date has been announced yet. The documentary begins 34 days before Holmes reported to prison, when she invited a film crew to document her final weeks of freedom. Fielder moved in with Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, during that period.
The filmmakers kept going long after she went to prison. They continued filming with Evans and stayed in contact with Holmes through 2025, turning a brief window into a 3-year project.
A24’s official synopsis describes the film as starting as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon before becoming “a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.” That framing fits Fielder’s reputation for projects that evolve in unpredictable ways.
In the trailer, Holmes says she wanted to capture her story before she was gone, and she insists she did nothing wrong. She also says she has nothing to hide, a claim the film seems eager to test.

At one point, Fielder questions whether she is being real, and Holmes insists that she always is. That tension between performance and authenticity appears to be at the heart of the film.
Holmes appears throughout alongside Evans and their 2 children. Her X account even shared the trailer, suggesting she has embraced the project’s release. Evans has spoken about why the couple agreed to participate. On the All-In Podcast, he said the idea was to let audiences see Holmes for themselves and make up their own minds.
He also admitted he hadn’t seen the finished film and joked that he might end up thinking it was the dumbest thing he had ever done. Evans added that the couple tells their children the truth whenever they ask questions, however complicated the conversation.
Fielder’s unique brand of comedy and discomfort has drawn a loyal following, and fans online are already marveling at the reviews. Many have joked that, true to form, the film is hard to sum up in a single sentence.

With near-perfect scores and an attention-grabbing subject, ‘You Can See Everything’ is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about documentaries in years. Its theatrical run will show whether that critical love translates into box office. The film is in US theaters now, with Australia and New Zealand releases set for November 12. A24 hasn’t confirmed when it will arrive on streaming.
