‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Season 2 Episode 6 Release Date and What to Expect From the Fort William Rescue
The sixth episode of ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ arrives on Friday, October 23, under the title “Small Mercies.” It follows the halfway point of the second season, an hour that sent the Jacobite army into battle against loyalist forces at Sheriffmuir.
The latest chapter of ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ picks up several threads at once. Brian, Murtagh and Dougal fought together on the battlefield, and the conflict ended in a draw before Dougal was captured. The production team has also promised a look at the aftermath of Seema’s death at the top of the next episode.
Release Date and Episode Details
New episodes arrive on the Starz app and Starz streaming platforms at midnight ET on Fridays, and they also air at 8 p.m. ET on the linear Starz channel. That puts the new installment within days of the fifth episode, which only just arrived.
The second season premiered on September 18, 2026, with new episodes arriving every Friday. The season will run for ten episodes in total. That leaves the story with plenty of room to develop after the midpoint.
The title offers few obvious clues. TV Insider described “Small Mercies” as too vague to draw conclusions from, while the next title, “Heart of the Highlands,” could point to the Scottish setting and community. For now, the previews and interviews give a better guide to what comes next.
The Fort William Rescue Mission
Dougal’s wish to provoke the Crown loyal Duke of Argyll led to his capture. Brian and his cousin Murtagh then set off to rescue him from Fort William. The sixth episode looks set to follow that journey closely.
Showrunner Matthew B. Roberts has been open about the fact that the outcome is not in question for viewers who know the original series. Speaking to Collider, he said Dougal is alive in ‘Outlander,’ so the interest lies in how the rescue is carried out, which he called exciting and fun.
Roberts also suggested that viewers will be surprised by what Brian, Murtagh and Dougal encounter at Fort William, and he described the trip as a small adventure for the two cousins. That framing suggests a change of pace after the heavy battle sequences.
The cast has pointed to the relationships driving the mission. In a conversation with TV Insider, Jamie Roy explained that a quiet respect between Brian and Dougal turned into a stronger bond after going to war together, and he described Brian and Murtagh as “thick as thieves.”
Seema’s Death and the Aftermath for Julia
The fifth episode ended with Julia facing danger from Seema, who had taken baby William. The standoff finally broke when Julia was forced to take action. The next hour is expected to deal with the consequences.
The conflict has been building for some time. Seema was distraught over wanting to be with Henry but not being able to have him. Their affair ended once Henry came to his senses, and any hope of rekindling it disappeared when he learned his wife was alive.
Henry’s own path has also shifted. He gave up a plan to slip away from the fighting and meet Julia so they could return to the stones and their daughter, choosing instead to save Arch Bug’s life. The decision keeps the Beauchamps apart at a delicate moment.
That choice carries a longer shadow for fans of the original series. Henry told Arch about the daughter he had lost, and Arch will one day live near Claire on Fraser’s Ridge without ever making the connection. It is the kind of near miss the prequel has become known for.
Critical Reception and the Second Season So Far
Early reviews have been positive, with some reservations. Metacritic lists the season at 73, which it classes as generally favorable. One review praised the visual style but felt the story itself lacked substance, while another said the first four episodes were laying the groundwork for bigger storytelling.
Audience scores look stronger. JustWatch lists an IMDb rating of 8.1 and a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent for the season. Reaction to the most recent hour has been more mixed, as But Why Tho called the fifth episode a step back after a riveting run.
The emotional weight of the Highlands storyline has carried much of the praise. Colum was shown praying for forgiveness at Castle Leoch, convinced he has led Clan MacKenzie to ruin. With Dougal in English hands and Brian and Murtagh heading to Fort William, do you think the rescue will deepen the bond between Brian and Dougal, or will it leave Ellen waiting even longer for news of the man she loves?
