‘The Hunting Wives’ Returns With Scandalous Season 2 Trailer and Release Date

Few shows were as unexpected a summer sensation as ‘The Hunting Wives’. The Netflix thriller, which started life as a Starz project, turned a group of conservative East Texas socialites into one of the most talked-about series of 2025. Now the first look at its return has arrived, and it promises more of everything that made fans hooked.

The series, created by Rebecca Cutter and based on May Cobb’s novel, premiered on July 21, 2025. It pulled in 5.2 million views in its first week, spent 5 weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English-language TV list and peaked at No. 2 globally in its second week.

Netflix renewed it in September 2025, and earlier this month it also announced a third season, before the new episodes have even premiered. Now the first trailer for the second season is out, and it confirms that all 8 episodes will land on Netflix on November 26, which is Thanksgiving Day.

The trailer opens with clothes strewn across a floor as Sophie, played by Brittany Snow, is asked by her husband whether she’s still dreaming about her secret lover, Margo Banks, played by Malin Åkerman. The footage runs nearly 2 minutes and leans hard into the show’s mix of romance, danger, and Texas-sized drama.

The official logline sets the stage. At the start of the new season, Sophie and Margo are on the outs, but old secrets and new foes force them back together, and the question becomes whether they’re the hunters or the hunted. TVLine notes that Sophie is desperate to escape Margo’s influence in the trailer, only to find herself in Margo’s bathtub anyway.

The preview also teases a few new wrinkles. A film crew follows Margo and her husband around, potentially documenting the wealthy oil tycoon’s campaign to become governor of Texas, and the footage even hints at a reality show in the style of ‘The Real Housewives’. Other highlights include more gunplay, a sense that Texas justice is closing in, and the possibility of a reconciliation.

The returning cast includes Dermot Mulroney, Jaime Ray Newman, Evan Jonigkeit, George Ferrier, Karen Rodriguez and Hunter Emery, along with Branton Box as Sheriff Jonny. They’re joined by a list of new names. John Stamos plays Chase Brylan, Cam Gigandet plays Gentle John Moffitt, and Dale Dickey plays Zelda Moffitt, while Kim Matula plays Nadia Kelly, Alex FitzAlan plays Lincoln Trout, and Angel Reese plays Trainer Barbie.

That’s a lot of fresh talent for a town where nobody seems to learn from their mistakes. The Playlist describes the show as a deliciously trashy thriller, and the trailer suggests the new episodes aren’t about to change that. Everyone appears to be hiding something, and nobody seems particularly interested in behaving.

Social media reactions have been enthusiastic. Fans replying to the trailer’s release on X called it more rich people making terrible decisions, with one saying the messier things get, the better, and another saying the first season had them hooked from the first episode and that November 26 can’t come fast enough.

The timing is also notable. Releasing on Thanksgiving gives Netflix a chance to offer some scandalous viewing between turkey and leftovers, and the second season arrives as a global Netflix-branded series in nearly all the markets where the streamer operates. The first season was available only in the US at the start, so a much bigger audience will be able to jump in this time around.

With a third season already confirmed, Netflix is clearly confident that Maple Brook still has plenty of secrets to unearth. Whether Sophie and Margo’s tangled relationship ends in a reunion or a disaster, the trailer makes one thing clear: the hunting season isn’t over.
