Callina Liang’s Magazine Cover Shows a Completely Different Side of ‘Street Fighter’s’ Chun-Li
Breakout years tend to arrive all at once, and Callina Liang is living proof. The Canadian-Chinese actress spent 2026 stepping into one of gaming’s most recognizable roles, and the press cycle that followed has turned her into a name the industry is watching closely. Now the Callina Liang magazine cover doing the rounds online is pushing that momentum into fashion territory.
Her path here has been quick but far from accidental. Liang made her film debut in J.C. Lee’s ‘Bad Genius’ in 2024, the English-language remake of the Thai thriller, before landing a lead in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ opposite Lucy Liu, a performance that made her one of Sundance’s noted breakouts.
The latest chapter is editorial rather than cinematic. Several outlets shared on October 18 that Liang covers the newest issue of Behind The Blinds magazine, with photography credited to Jason Renaud. The images, shot in moody black and white, show her in a satin slip dress reclining against dark cushions, with a second frame featuring a tousled updo and an oversized jacket draped off her shoulders.
The pared-back styling reads as a conscious pivot. On screen in ‘Street Fighter’, audiences are watching her in the character’s blue qipao-style costume with spiked wristbands and signature hair buns, with behind-the-scenes photos showing the outfit torn and dirty alongside bruising makeup.
Seeing both versions circulating at once has been part of the appeal. Her press tour has consistently leaned into glamorous looks that sit at the opposite end of the spectrum from the gritty fighter she plays, and the Behind The Blinds shoot is the fullest expression of that yet.

The magazine itself has featured a run of rising names recently. Recent covers have included Connor Storrie, François Arnaud and Ruaridh Mollica, with its Summer/Fall 2026 issue featuring Stephen Kalyn as one of 2 cover stars.
What makes the softer imagery land is knowing what went into the role. Liang reportedly trained 2 hours a day before traveling to Australia for the shoot, then ramped up to 4 hours daily for 6 weeks before action cameras rolled.
The regimen spanned Taekwondo, Muay Thai and Wushu, with a heavy focus on leg strength and a bulking diet. By the end of production, each of her thighs had reportedly grown by 6.5 centimeters.

The commitment came from genuine fandom. Liang told Zero Nine Magazine she has been a fan since she was 12, and described the training to move like the character as very intense. She also said the Lightning Kick is the signature move she can pull off herself, and that she still trains at least twice a week, calling it a form of therapy.
The movie has not been universally embraced. ‘Street Fighter’, directed by Kitao Sakurai for Legendary Pictures with Noah Centineo as Ken and Jason Momoa as Blanka, currently holds a 42% critics score, well below the 87% on ‘Presence’.

Commercially, it has fared better. The film opened at No. 1 with $31 million from 3,575 theaters, giving Liang a genuine wide-release headliner on her résumé. Whatever the critical consensus, her individual work has been singled out.
The physical commitment behind Chun-Li’s kicks is earning the kind of praise rarely attached to video game adaptations, and the editorial attention now following her suggests the industry sees range rather than a single mode.

For an actress who was a Sundance discovery barely 2 years ago, moving from an indie horror lead to a blockbuster to a fashion cover in short order is a notable trajectory. The question now is simply what she picks next.
