Anne Hathaway’s ‘Verity’ Is Hitting Digital Barely 3 Weeks After It Opened
Theatrical windows have been shrinking for years, but studios still tend to protect films that are performing. That makes the home release timeline for Amazon MGM’s latest Colleen Hoover adaptation notable, given that the film opened at No. 1 and has been printing money against a modest budget. The ‘Verity’ digital release lands remarkably soon after its theatrical bow.
The film’s run started strong. Directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay by Nick Antosca, it premiered at London’s Curzon Mayfair on September 24 before opening in the US on October 2, topping the domestic chart with $32.6 million from 3,510 theaters.
Now comes the quick turnaround. Amazon MGM is releasing the psychological thriller on VOD and digital platforms on October 27, just 25 days after its theatrical debut, with purchase and rental options on Amazon Video and iTunes.
The numbers make the timing interesting rather than alarming. Produced for $40 million, the film has grossed more than $146 million worldwide, with a domestic total around $66 million after 3 weekends.

It also outperformed its peers. The opening bested fellow Hoover adaptations ‘Regretting You’ at $23.6 million and ‘Reminders of Him’ at $28.1 million in worldwide debuts, with the domestic start running roughly 76 percent ahead of the latter. The film has been front-loaded, though. It dropped about 50 percent in its third weekend to roughly $6.2 million for sixth place, and recently shed 500 theaters.
Reviews have been rough. The film holds a 31% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes from 183 reviews, with the consensus noting it leans more toward guilty than pleasurable thanks to twists described as deflating.
The Hollywood Reporter was blunt, calling it a literary misfire and arguing the movie is neither sexy nor smart despite the obvious talent involved. Variety’s Guy Lodge described it as listless and unintentionally funny.

Hathaway has been the consistent exception. Multiple critics singled her out as the brightest spot, praising her willingness to embrace the material’s more outrageous instincts.
This caps an extraordinary stretch for its star. The film is the last of Hathaway’s 5 releases in 2026, following ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, which grossed a combined $2.5 billion worldwide, plus ‘Mother Mary’ and ‘The End of Oak Street’.
It also marked her third No. 1 opening of the year. She plays bestselling author Verity Crawford, with Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite the remaining books, and Josh Hartnett as Verity’s husband Jeremy.
Hathaway produced as well, alongside Hoover, Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter and Jordana Mollick. The streaming picture remains unclear. Amazon MGM has not announced when the film reaches Prime Video, though based on the studio’s recent releases taking roughly 2 to 4 months, estimates point to late December or January.

Physical editions haven’t been dated either. Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD releases have UPCs assigned but no announced dates. The film is still rolling out internationally, with Korea and Japan among the markets still to come, meaning that the worldwide total has room to climb even as it arrives at home.
Will you watch Anne Hathaway’s Verity now that it’s arriving on digital just 25 days after its theatrical release?
