‘MobLand’ Season 2 Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Harry’s Newgate Prison Gamble and a Late Night Call to Frankie’s Son
The episode titled “Ace of Spades” arrived on Paramount+ on October 30. It finds the Harrigans in full retreat, burying what they have lost and plotting a counterattack. It also puts Harry Da Souza in one of his most dangerous situations of the season.
This ‘MobLand’ recap and ending explained breaks down how the family regrouped, how Frankie Cooper set his trap, and how Harry answered it. The hour closes with a standoff at a casino, a reveal about Newgate Prison and a phone call that cuts to black before anyone learns what happens. Spoilers follow for everything in the episode.
‘MobLand’ Recap as the Harrigans Retreat and Regroup
The family opens the hour in mourning, with Conrad burying his dogs and Maeve grieving her horses. That anger sends them back from the Cotswolds toward London to find out which associates are still loyal.
Harry and Kevin take one side of the operation, while Conrad and Paul take the other. One summary describes the family buying loyalty with cash, threats and broken fingers. The plan sounds simple until Paul disappears.
Frankie hires Sicily, a dancer Paul used to see, and questions her about him. She then calls Paul and asks him to meet at the club. Conrad leaves Paul on his own in the middle of their rounds, which hands Frankie his opening.
At a wrecking yard, Frankie tortures Paul and forces him to call Harry with a cover story, setting a meeting for midnight at the Riviera Palm Casino. Paul gives the game away by ending the call with a slang word Harry only allows him to use when he is in serious trouble.
Ending Explained After the Casino Standoff
Harry and Kevin agree that Paul is bait, and they also know that Frankie would extract everything Paul knows about the Harrigans if he keeps him. Harry decides to go in alone.
At the casino, Frankie offers Harry a place in his crew, and Harry turns him down with a quip about already being in a band. Sicily apologizes to Paul, and Frankie kills her at the table.
Frankie suspects that Harry is hiding something he got from Jojo, and Harry answers with a single place name, Newgate Prison. The standoff turns into a game of chance, Harry comes out ahead, and Frankie lets him and Paul walk.
Outside the casino, Harry tells a shaken Paul that he has a busy night ahead. He then phones Michael in prison and warns him that he will be attacked at three in the morning.
What the Newgate Prison Gamble Means for Frankie
Newgate is where Frankie’s son, Michael, is serving time for possession with intent to supply. Frankie dismisses him as a lazy burden, but Harry does not buy it, and as a father himself he says so. The information came from Conrad’s notes on his interrogation of Jojo.
The call can be read two ways, since Harry might be warning Michael about someone else’s hit or he might be the one making the threat. He never says who ordered it, and either way Frankie has to spend the night protecting his son instead of coming after the Harrigans.
One outlet frames Newgate Prison as the titular ace of spades and a possible secret weapon in the war against Frankie. Another recap argues that for the first time Frankie’s days feel numbered and that Harry has the upper hand.
Loose Threads Inside the Harrigan Family
Harry finds Donnie’s address in Conrad’s notebook and goes alone, only to find the body and the gun Jan left behind. He takes both along with Donnie’s phone and keys, calls Zosia to clean up, and learns that nobody can reach Jan.
Seraphina tells Charlton to forget Conrad and invest his money in her instead, and she reveals that she has already started down that road. The move suggests she might betray Conrad in upcoming episodes.
Maeve works inside the family once again, telling Gina that she is Harry’s only weakness and pushing her to stage a crisis. She also reads Eddie’s searches for ways to escape, questions whether he really killed Tommy Stevenson, and warns him that leaving the family means dying. One reviewer found it surprising that Gina would consider the idea given how far her bond with Harry had come.
The season ends on November 20, and the show has already been renewed for another run. Frankie has shown he will kill in front of an audience, but Harry has shown he can find the one thing that makes him hesitate. If you read Harry’s call to Michael as a warning rather than a threat, the comments are the place to explain whether that makes him the Harrigans’ best protector or their biggest risk.
