‘The Housemaid’ was one of the biggest surprise hits of last holiday season. Paul Feig’s adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, earned $400.5 million worldwide on a $35 million budget after opening in December 2025.

Lionsgate moved quickly to keep the story going, greenlighting a sequel in January. ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ adapts the second book in McFadden’s series, with Feig returning to direct and Rebecca Sonnenshine back to write the script.

Now production has moved to the streets of New York. Sweeney and Stephen Kalyn, who broke out playing Dean Di Laurentis in Prime Video’s ‘Off Campus’, were spotted filming scenes for ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ in NYC.

Photos from Friday, October 30, show Kalyn holding Sweeney’s face as he leans in for a kiss on a busy street. Thought Catalog reported that the romantic scene was filmed outside Hunter College.

The pair were later seen walking hand in hand. Sweeney wore a tan canvas work jacket, a plaid button-down and wide-leg jeans, while Kalyn sported a dark green tweed suit with a light purple shirt and burgundy tie.

Kalyn joins the sequel as a new character named Brock. Details about his role haven’t been revealed, but the on-set photos suggest a romantic storyline for Sweeney’s character. Other photos from the shoot show the 2 in more casual outfits, with Kalyn in a striped sweater as Sweeney walks ahead of him outside a stone building.

Earlier this week, Sweeney was also photographed running through the streets of New York during filming. According to social media reports, the production had been filming in New Jersey before moving to New York City this week.

Sweeney returns as Millie Calloway, the housekeeper at the center of the story. According to Lionsgate’s synopsis, Millie takes a new job working for a woman she’s never allowed to see, and soon discovers the truth behind another locked door that hides secrets darker than her own.

Michele Morrone also returns as Enzo, the gardener from the first film. Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, who played Nina and Andrew Winchester, won’t appear in the sequel. The sequel has added several high-profile names. Kirsten Dunst plays Wendy Garrick, the mysterious woman behind Millie’s new job, while Paul Anthony Kelly makes his film debut as her billionaire husband, Douglas Garrick.

Brittany Snow also joins the cast as Marybeth. Feig had said that production would begin in fall 2026, and the film’s Instagram account recently shared a video of the cast getting into costume on set. ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ is scheduled to open in theaters on December 17, 2027. That means fans have more than a year to wait before seeing how Millie’s next job unfolds.

Until then, set photos like these are giving fans their first look at the new chapter. With a returning star, a fresh cast, and a beloved source novel, expectations are high for the sequel to match the success of the original.
