Netflix’s ‘Anaesthesia’ Release Date, Trailer, Cast, and Plot Explained

Netflix is about to launch ‘Anaesthesia’, which carries the Polish title ‘Znieczulenie’ and is being billed as the platform’s first Polish medical drama. The series centers on a gifted surgeon whose career takes a hard turn, and it arrives with a trailer, official stills and a confirmed premiere date. For viewers tracking new international releases, it is one of the more notable additions to the streamer’s autumn schedule.

The show also lands at a moment when medical dramas are getting renewed attention. Netflix has ordered several new medical dramas from around the world for its 2026 slate, and ‘Anaesthesia’ is one of the few confirmed medical shows premiering this year. That context makes the series worth a closer look than a typical regional release.

‘Anaesthesia’ Release Date on Netflix

Early reporting was vague about timing. An initial report said no official release date had been set and that the series would premiere globally on Netflix in the latter half of 2026. That picture has since sharpened considerably.

The first season will premiere on Netflix on November 4, 2026. Netflix has said the eight episodes will be made available at the same time. Viewers can therefore plan a full binge rather than waiting on a weekly schedule.

The series is also part of a much larger push in the region. It is one piece of a 12 title Polish slate that Netflix announced for 2026, which spans series, films and returning favorites. That investment suggests the streamer sees local storytelling as a priority.

The ‘Anaesthesia’ Trailer and What It Shows

Netflix unveiled the first trailer alongside a batch of official images. The platform presented the trailer and official stills while confirming a November 4 debut. The footage also served as the clearest signal of the show’s tone and release timing.

The preview makes it plain that a change of workplace does not bring the lead character a calmer life. The trailer shows the neurosurgeon quickly colliding with the realities of a provincial hospital, its rules, and people who do not intend to defer to the newcomer. That friction appears to be the engine of the series.

The trailer also confirmed the November 4 premiere. For a show that began with only a loose release window, the footage gave audiences their first concrete look at what they are getting.

‘Anaesthesia’ Cast and Creative Team

Leszek Lichota stars as the neurosurgeon Dawid Łazarz. He is best known to Netflix subscribers for the original movie ‘Forgotten Love’, and he also had a prominent role in the HBO Central Europe drama ‘Wataha’. That mix of streaming and prestige television experience gives the lead a solid foundation.

The supporting ensemble is large. The cast includes Karolina Gruszka, Aleksandra Popławska, Dorota Kolak, Mariusz Bonaszewski, Krzysztof Stelmaszyk, Marcin Czarnik, Magdalena Koleśnik, Masza Wągrocka, Filip Kowalewicz, Gamou Fall, Hugo Tarres and Joanna Balasz. Popławska previously appeared alongside Lichota in ‘Wataha’.

Behind the camera, Łukasz Ostalski directs, and the scripts were written by Dana Łukasińska, Bartosz Janiszewski, Marcin Ciastoń and Beata Halastra. Ostalski previously directed the Polish Netflix Original ‘Family Secrets’, though this appears to be his first medical procedural.

‘Anaesthesia’ Plot and Medical Drama Context

The story follows a surgeon whose reputation collapses after one operation. According to the official logline, a brilliant neurosurgeon is ousted from a prestigious clinic after a failed operation and lands in a small facility where his arrogance clashes with the locals, though his rule bending methods might be exactly what saves lives. The premise places a proud outsider inside a community that has little reason to trust him.

The writers appear to be aiming for more than case of the week storytelling. The creators say a central theme will be the responsibility doctors carry for their decisions, including the consequences of choices made under pressure when a life is at stake. The series is also set to tackle complex ethical dilemmas through its medical cases.

Authenticity has been a stated priority. The production brought in consultants led by Neal Baer, a producer of ‘ER’. Baer worked on ‘ER’ during its early seasons, drawing on his experience as a pediatrician.

The character type is familiar, and the coverage acknowledges it. Netflix’s description teases a controversial figure who butts heads with colleagues and the hospital hierarchy, a dynamic compared to Dr. Gregory House, although the protagonist here is a neurosurgeon. The same coverage also asked whether the series could become the next ‘The Pitt’, a comparison that sets a high bar.

The streamer’s track record in the genre adds some pressure. Netflix’s slate of medical dramas remains small, and its US attempt ‘Pulse’ was swiftly canceled. Whether a Polish production can succeed where that effort fell short is the open question hanging over ‘Anaesthesia’, so does a rule breaking neurosurgeon like Dr. Łazarz win you over, or has the genre’s difficult doctor worn out his welcome in the comments?
