The X-Men’s future in the MCU has been one of the biggest open questions in Marvel fandom. Marvel Studios is already developing an ‘X-Men’ reboot with Jake Schreier directing, and Sonny Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are working on a new draft of Michael Lesslie’s script.

The studio has also started filling out its mutant roster. Sadie Sink was announced as Jean Grey and Adam Driver as Nathan Milbury, also known as Mister Sinister, at D23, while other castings have been reported but not confirmed.

Now another round of rumors is adding to the excitement. As Cosmic Marvel shared, citing insider Daniel Richtman, ‘X-Force’ and ‘Alpha Flight’ films are reportedly in the works at Marvel Studios.

Marvel hasn’t confirmed either project, so the report should be treated as unverified for now. Still, both teams have been tied to earlier rumors about where the studio could take its mutant characters next.

‘X-Force’ has been on fans’ radar for years. Ryan Reynolds wanted to develop an ‘X-Force’ movie while the X-Men rights were still at 20th Century Fox, but those plans ended after Disney acquired Fox in 2019.

Back in January, ComicBookMovie.com reported a Richtman rumor that Marvel Studios was moving forward with an ‘X-Force’ movie set after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Another insider, MyTimeToShineHello, later claimed the film would include Cable, Wolverine, and Storm.

ComicBookMovie.com suggested the project could be tied to Reynolds’ long-rumored team-up film. The outlet pointed to Rick Remender’s ‘X-Force’ comics run, which paired Deadpool with Wolverine, Archangel, Psylocke and Fantomex, as a possible template.

The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Reynolds was developing treatments for an ensemble film featuring 3 or 4 X-Men characters, with Deadpool in a supporting role. Reynolds reportedly felt that approach would let the X-Men be used in unexpected ways.

As of May 2025, that project had not been greenlit. Many assumed it would be an ‘X-Force’ film, but a newer rumor suggests it might be something else entirely. Earlier this week, ComicBookMovie.com highlighted a rumor from Cartier Films suggesting Reynolds’ team-up movie could actually be ‘Alpha Flight’. According to that report, the film could either fold into ‘Deadpool 4’ or stand on its own.

The same rumor claims Marvel is looking at an actor who could debut as the MCU’s new Wolverine. Hugh Jackman is set to return as Logan in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and is expected in ‘Secret Wars’, so a new Wolverine would mark a major shift for the franchise.

Alpha Flight is Canada’s top superhero team, first introduced in ‘Uncanny X-Men’ #120 in 1979. The original group, known as The Flight, included Wolverine, Groundhog, Snowbird, St. Elmo, Stitch and Smart Alec.

The best-known lineup features Guardian, Northstar, Aurora, Sasquatch, Shaman and Puck. Bringing them to the big screen would introduce a whole new corner of Marvel’s mutant world to MCU audiences.

For now, both projects remain rumors without official confirmation from Marvel Studios. SuperHeroHype has noted that the ‘X-Force’ report should be treated as a rumor, especially with the separate ‘X-Men’ reboot already in development.

If either team does make it to theaters, it would likely be part of Marvel’s post-‘Secret Wars’ plans. Until then, fans will be watching closely for official word on how many mutant teams Marvel has in store.

Which mutant team would you rather see get its own MCU movie?
