A ‘Fast & Furious’ TV Show Is Officially In The Works, and Vin Diesel Is Bringing the Whole Family to Peacock

For over two decades, the ‘Fast & Furious‘ franchise has defied every expectation Hollywood could throw at it. What began as a modest street-racing story has grown into one of the most globally dominant action sagas in cinema history, with eleven films and a worldwide box office haul of more than $7 billion to its name. As the film series approaches its final chapter, Universal is making sure the family does not simply fade to black.

The franchise has already tested the television waters once before, with the animated series ‘Fast & Furious: Spy Racers’ running for six seasons on Netflix, executive produced by Diesel, Neal Moritz, and Chris Morgan. That animated run demonstrated there was genuine appetite for expanding the property beyond the multiplex, and it quietly laid the groundwork for something far more ambitious.

Now the live-action leap is official. After months of speculation, NBCUniversal confirmed at its upfront presentation that a live-action series based on the ‘Fast & Furious’ action franchise is in development, with Vin Diesel attached as executive producer. The show will be developed at Peacock, with plot details being kept firmly under wraps.

In vintage Diesel fashion, the announcement came with an unexpected flourish. Taking the stage alongside host Jimmy Fallon, Diesel declared that Peacock is “launching four shows in the Fast and the Furious universe.” Variety was quick to offer a correction, however, confirming through a source with knowledge of the situation that there is, in fact, only one series actively in development, with additional projects sitting in various stages at Universal Television.

Diesel gave some insight into why the timing finally felt right. Speaking at the presentation, the actor explained that he came around on the idea after Donna Langley began overseeing NBCUniversal’s TV division in 2025, saying her involvement gave him confidence that the integrity of the characters and the international spirit of the franchise would be protected in the television space. Diesel will executive produce through his One Race banner, alongside franchise veterans Neal Moritz, Chris Morgan, Pavun Shetty, and Jeff Kirschenbaum.

On the creative side, Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman are set to serve as co-showrunners and will co-write the pilot. The pairing brings strong credentials, having previously collaborated on the NBC drama ‘Shades of Blue’, and Daniels is currently riding momentum after landing a series order at NBC for his ‘Rockford Files’ reboot. No casting announcements or story details have been shared.

The announcement arrives as the franchise marks its 25th anniversary, with a special screening of the original film planned at the Cannes Film Festival, which Diesel and Moritz will attend. The film saga is expected to conclude with ‘Fast Forever’, slated for theaters on March 17, 2028, making the Peacock series look like the bridge Universal is building to carry the franchise beyond the finish line.

Whether Dominic Toretto himself will appear on screen for the series is the question every fan is now asking, and it would be great to hear which direction you are hoping it goes.
