A ‘How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ Sequel Is Finally Happening, More Than Two Decades Later
Early 2000s rom-coms have spent the past few years enjoying an unexpected second life, with studios increasingly betting on nostalgia to revive beloved titles for a generation that grew up quoting them. That trend has already produced projects like ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’ and it’s now reaching one of the genre’s most enduring favorites.
‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,’ the 2003 Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey classic, has remained a staple of the rom-com canon for over two decades, grossing nearly $180 million worldwide against a modest $50 million budget. Hudson herself has spoken about the film’s lasting popularity before, and both stars have hinted at their openness to revisiting the material if the right script ever came together.
That possibility is now moving forward for real. According to Variety, a sequel to ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ is officially in the works at Paramount, with Hudson attached to produce the project alongside veteran producer Stacey Sher through her Shiny Penny banner. The studio and filmmakers’ intention is for both Hudson and McConaughey to reprise their original roles as magazine columnist Andie Anderson and advertising executive Benjamin Barry.
Despite the exciting confirmation, the project remains in its earliest stages. According to Deadline’s reporting, there is no logline yet for the sequel, no writer currently attached, and no cast members officially signed on, meaning any potential return from Hudson and McConaughey will ultimately depend on how the screenplay comes together. Representatives for both stars did not immediately respond to requests for comment when the news broke.
Sher’s producing résumé includes an impressive run of acclaimed films, from ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Erin Brockovich’ to ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘Gattaca,’ giving the sequel a genuinely experienced creative hand behind the scenes even this early on. Her involvement, paired with Hudson’s own producing credit, suggests the project is being treated as a serious priority rather than a quick cash-in attempt.
This isn’t the first time Hudson has addressed the idea of revisiting Andie Anderson. During a 2024 appearance on Bravo’s ‘Watch What Happens Live,’ Hudson said she and McConaughey had discussed the possibility, adding, “All that matters would be the script and if Matthew and I were into the script. I think we’re both totally open; it has just never happened.” As recently as January 2026, she reiterated in interviews that no sequel was yet in development, while still signaling she’d likely commit if the material worked.
Hudson has stayed busy in the years since the original film’s release, most recently earning her second Oscar nomination for ‘Song Sung Blue’ and currently leading Netflix’s ‘Running Point’ into its third season. McConaughey, meanwhile, has largely stepped away from romantic comedies in recent years, though he’s previously described the original film as an “anchor” within the genre he once helped define.

With Paramount now officially moving the project forward and two committed producers already in place, ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days 2’ has a real chance of becoming one of the more anticipated legacy sequels in recent memory, assuming the script lives up to what made the original such a lasting favorite.
