Netflix has just released a new teaser for the upcoming action thriller, The Rip, starring Hollywood heavyweights Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Directed and written by Joe Carnahan, who developed the story with Michael McGrale, the film also features Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, Kyle Chandler, Néstor Carbonell, and Lina Esco. Fans can catch the movie when it premieres on Netflix on January 16, 2026.

The story centers on a group of Miami police officers who stumble upon a massive stash of cash. As news of the find spreads, tensions rise and loyalties are tested, leaving the characters unsure of who they can trust.

Ben Affleck plays JD Byrne, while Matt Damon takes on the role of Dane Dumars. Lina Esco plays Jackie Velez, and the rest of the cast rounds out the ensemble for what promises to be a high-stakes thriller.

The project was first announced in June 2024, with Affleck and Damon confirmed as the leads.

Both stars are also producing the film through their company, Artists Equity. Shortly after the announcement, Netflix acquired the rights to distribute the film. Additional casting news came in late 2024, with Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Néstor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Lina Esco joining the roster.

Filming began in Los Angeles on October 3, 2024, and wrapped in early December. Some scenes were also shot in New Jersey. The cinematography was led by Juanmi Azpiroz.

The teaser has already given audiences a first look at the film’s high-energy action, tense moments, and star-studded cast. Fans are already sharing their excitement on social media, marking it as one of Netflix’s anticipated releases for early 2026.

From the teaser, it’s clear that The Rip will mix crime, action, and suspense, promising a gripping story about trust, greed, and survival. With Affleck and Damon leading the charge, viewers can expect sharp performances and intense moments.
