Adrien Brody Weighs in on Jacob Elordi’s Viral Red Carpet Moment With His Mother
Jacob Elordi certainly has a dedicated support system in his mother. The rising star was recently seen at the Los Angeles world premiere of his latest project, a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, where a fan-captured video showed a particularly endearing family moment. In the footage, Elordi is seen taking chewing gum out of his mouth and handing it to his mother, who holds it for him so he can focus on his red carpet poses.
The clip quickly went viral, even catching the eye of fellow actor Adrien Brody, who had a similar experience during the 2025 Oscars. Before heading to the stage to collect his Best Actor trophy for The Brutalist, Brody famously passed his own gum to his partner, Georgina Chapman. Commenting on the video of Elordi, Brody simply called the situation completely relatable.
While some viewers poked fun at Brody’s awards-show scramble, Chapman later clarified that she was the one who prompted the move. She explained that she specifically requested he give it to her after noticing a look of sudden realization on his face. She could tell he was thinking about the fact that he probably shouldn’t be chewing gum during such a massive moment.
Brody also laughed about the incident during a television appearance, admitting he had totally forgotten the gum was there until his name was called. He joked that he couldn’t exactly give a proper speech while chewing, and while he later realized he could have just swallowed it, his first instinct was simply to find a way to get rid of it immediately.
Elordi might find himself in a similar position very soon, as he has earned his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. His performance as the Creature in the Guillermo del Toro film Frankenstein has put him in a category with heavyweights like Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Delroy Lindo, and Stellan Skarsgård.
To prepare for the role, the actor took a deep dive into the character’s psyche, keeping a massive journal written entirely from the monster’s point of view. He noted that by the time filming wrapped, he had filled a literal bible of the character’s thoughts, describing the entire creative experience as feeling like he had been in a total fugue state.
The actor also leaned into the aesthetics of the early 20th century to find the Creature’s voice. He and del Toro spent time analyzing silent films, noting that the large, subtle expressions in those performances were able to communicate points with incredible precision. While some might view that style as overly dramatic, Elordi found the performances to be remarkably tight and direct.
Outside of the awards circuit, the Australian actor has been exceptionally busy with a string of high-profile projects. He is set to star as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming Wuthering Heights alongside Margot Robbie, a project that has already generated significant buzz. He is also slated to appear in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic The Dog Stars with Margaret Qualley later this year.
Which of Jacob Elordi’s diverse roles do you think has been his best performance so far? Share your thoughts in the comments!
