Written by Yū Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana, the Terraformars (or Terra Formars, based on the source) manga has undoubtedly become a cult classic series and one of the foremost seinen titles in history. And while the series never became a mainstream work, the fandom of the Terraformars series is a loyal and large one. While most fans will know the series thanks to the anime adaptation, Terraformars is actually an ongoing manga series, a fact many fans are not aware of. Fans of the series will know that the Terraformars series has been on a hiatus for the last five years, but we are happy to confirm that the series is finally returning on April 4, 2024.

The Terraformars manga debuted on January 13, 2011, in the Miracle Jump magazine, but moved to Weekly Young Jump in 2012. It had been published continuously until December 2018, when it went on an indefinite hiatus following 22 published volumes. The reason given then was Sasuga’s health, as he had to undergo a recovery period.

And while the publisher announced that it would confirm a return date later, no one really expected it to last this long. Five years later, the manga was still on hiatus until March 2024, when this year’s 17th issue of Weekly Young Jump confirmed that Terraformars would return starting with the 18th issue, which is going to be published on April 4, 2024. A promotional video was released to celebrate the manga’s return and you can check it out here:

The official summary of the manga’s plot states the following:

In the late 26th century, overpopulation on Earth is reaching the breaking point, and humanity must find new frontiers. The terraforming of Mars has taken centuries but is now complete. The colonization of Mars by humanity is an epoch-making event, but an unintended side effect of the terraforming process unleashes a horror no one could ever have imagined. Now only bioengineered and expendable human soldiers stand any chance against monstrous creatures that threaten Earth itself!

This is certainly great news for fans of the series, and we are happy to share it with you today. Fans of the series can rejoice after a long waiting period, and we hope that there will be no additional breaks in the future.
