AI ‘Actor’ Tilly Norwood Drops Bizarre Music Video: ‘AI’s Not the Enemy’
An unusual music video from AI “actor” Tilly Norwood is getting attention online after the digital pop star released a song addressing criticism of artificial intelligence in entertainment.
Norwood, a virtual performer created by the company Particle6, appears in the new video for the track “Take the Lead.” In the song, she responds directly to people who worry about the impact of AI on creative industries. One of the main lyrics declares, “AI’s not the enemy, it’s the key.”
The video shows the AI character moving through several scenes that mimic celebrity life. Norwood appears on television talk shows, on billboards around London, and taking selfies with fans. She is also shown performing in stadiums as if she were a global pop star.
Later in the video, the visuals become more surreal. Pink flamingos appear in several shots, along with a branded airplane, flying dolphins, and a strange inflatable building. In one moment, a child holds a doll modeled after the digital star. Another scene shows Norwood trying to complete a CAPTCHA test to prove she is not a robot.
The project was produced by Particle6, the company behind the AI character. According to the studio, the video offers a preview of a larger digital universe they call the “Tillyverse.” The concept imagines a cloud-based world where AI characters can live, interact, and work together.
The company says the release comes before what it describes as Norwood’s “official AI acting debut” later this year.
The song itself was inspired by a recent essay written by Eline van der Velden, the CEO of Particle6 and AI talent studio Xicoia. Van der Velden is also the real actor behind the digital character. She explained that the track reflects the reaction that followed Norwood’s debut last year and the broader discussion around artificial intelligence.
The lyrics encourage performers to experiment with the technology. At one point the song suggests that actors should “build your own” AI avatars so they can “be free.”
The audio for the song was generated using the AI platform Suno. The video was produced using multiple AI tools alongside Particle6’s own production process. Van der Velden also physically performed the character’s movements through performance capture.
Despite being an AI-focused project, the production still involved a team of 18 people. The crew included roles such as director, executive producer, production designer, costume designer, editor, comedy writer, and several technical specialists.
Van der Velden said the project was created to explore what AI can do creatively rather than replace human artists. “Tilly is, and has always been, a vehicle to test the creative capabilities and boundaries of AI – not take anyone’s job,” she said. She also explained that the performance allowed her to act through a digital character in a new way.
“As an actor myself, I have loved bringing Tilly alive for this video and feel that the ability to now use performance capture in this way, to fully inhabit an AI character, is a phenomenal way to bring an unknown actor like me closer to the craft.” At the same time, van der Velden stressed that technology cannot replace human creativity.
“However, at the end of the day, even with brilliant new technology, it’s still important to stress that great AI content isn’t instant — it always takes good ideas, taste, direction, judgement and time. In other words: people remain at the heart of it.”
Projects like this show how fast artificial intelligence is moving into entertainment. Some people see it as exciting, while others worry about what it means for actors and artists. The debate will probably continue as more AI characters appear in movies, music, and TV. What do you think about an AI pop star releasing music and preparing for acting roles?
