The new DC Universe is coming together under James Gunn and Peter Safran, but fans are still waiting for one of the biggest reveals: who will play Batman and Wonder Woman?

So far, David Corenswet has stepped into the role of Superman, and season two of Peacemaker is already out for fans to enjoy.

But the rest of DC’s main heroes remain a mystery. Gunn has said before that neither Batman nor Wonder Woman have been cast yet, which has left the internet buzzing with theories.

Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles have been two of the most popular fan picks for Batman. Some fans even hope Robert Pattinson’s version, which belongs to Matt Reeves’ separate Elseworlds line, could somehow join the main DCU.

Recently, Ritchson admitted that he actually spoke with Gunn about the role. In an interview, he said, “Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”

That may disappoint fans since Ritchson has been very open about wanting to wear the cape and cowl. At one point, he even joked that he was ready to “shout it from the rooftops.”

As for Batman’s official future, Gunn has already announced that his first true appearance will come in The Brave and the Bold.

The movie will be based on Grant Morrison’s comic run and will feature Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son, as Robin. Gunn described it as a father-and-son story that will feel very different from past Batman films.

We’ve already seen a quick tease of Batman in Creature Commandos, but no actor or voice was tied to that version. The Brave and the Bold will mark his proper introduction into the DCU.

The film will be directed by Andy Muschietti, who also directed The Flash. His sister Barbara will produce alongside Gunn and Safran.

Progress has been slow because of scheduling conflicts and the need to keep it separate from Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. Gunn has also confirmed that a writer is already attached but has chosen not to reveal who it is just yet.

For now, fans are still left guessing about who will be the next Batman. Ritchson seems to be off the table for that role, but his comments make it clear that James Gunn still has other plans for him somewhere in the DC Universe.
