Alan Ritchson In Talks For “Messier” Role in DC Universe
Alan Ritchson is reportedly in talks to join James Gunn’s DC Universe, potentially taking on a “messier” character than the clean-cut heroes fans are used to.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant about his upcoming movie Playdate, Ritchson opened up about the possibility of joining the DCU. When asked if he’d prefer to play a hero or a villain, he confirmed he is discussing a darker, more complex character.
“Yeah. Yes. That’s the conversation that I’ve been having with them is like, ‘I want to play somebody a little messier.’ And I told them, I said, if I’m going to do this, I described to them the kind of personality that I’d want to play and what that would mean to their world, and I think it’s something everybody wants to see right now over there. So yes, I want to play somebody a little dirtier than your typical clean-cut protagonist,” he said.
Ritchson has long been a fan favorite for the role of Batman in the DCU. He has expressed interest in taking on the Dark Knight multiple times.
However, in a Variety interview in August, he acknowledged that while he and Gunn have discussed Batman, he doesn’t expect to take on the iconic role.
“Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely. I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true,” Ritchson explained.
It’s not clear yet which character Ritchson might play, and he could appear in a TV show first before moving to the big-screen DC movies. Fans will have to wait to see exactly how this “messier” role will fit into James Gunn’s vision for the DC Universe.
