Alastair Stout Wows as Ron Weasley in First ‘Harry Potter’ TV Show Trailer
HBO has released the first trailer for its new Harry Potter series, giving fans a first look at the cast and an early Christmas 2026 premiere date. The series will retell J.K. Rowling’s stories, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and promises a modern, multi-season take on the magical world.
The trailer introduces the main young cast, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
In one scene, Stout can be seen sitting in the classroom, perfectly capturing Ron’s curious and loyal personality. Fans also get a first look at the adult cast: John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in full robes and beard, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Francesca Gardiner, known for Succession, is the showrunner, while Mark Mylod, who worked on Game of Thrones, directs several episodes. HBO Max CEO JB Perrette described the show as “the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming, period. It’s number one, two and three in many ways.”
Original Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe shared his support for McLaughlin, stating, “I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me. I learned as I went. I look back on what I did now with a lot more kindness, and I find it less embarrassing now that I’m older. But I was very much learning how to do it for a long time on Potter.”
