Alfonso Cuarón Hints He Truly May Direct the Next James Bond Movie

It looks like the rumors might be true—Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón could be the one to direct the next James Bond movie, Bond 26.

During a recent masterclass event in Paris, Cuarón made a surprising statement. He didn’t say it directly, but he strongly hinted that he’s in talks with Amazon and MGM about joining the next 007 film.

There is indeed this project under discussion, and I have a desire — if it happens — to revisit this story in my own way,” he said.

This comes after weeks of reports from inside sources. Last month, film journalist Jeff Sneider shared that David Heyman, a well-known producer rumored to be working on Bond 26, was interested in Cuarón for the director’s chair.

Not long after, Matt Belloni also reported that Cuarón had met with Amazon and shared his own fresh vision for the next Bond movie.

Amazon, which now owns the rights to James Bond after a $1 billion deal, is eager to move fast on the project. With writers already working on the script, the next big step is picking a director. Cuarón seems to be at the top of the list.

This wouldn’t be the first time Cuarón has been linked to Bond. Back in the early 2000s, he was offered the chance to direct a Bond film, but he turned it down after learning that a separate team, chosen by producer Barbara Broccoli, would handle the action scenes. That didn’t sit well with him, and he walked away.

But a lot has changed since then. Cuarón is now one of the most respected filmmakers in the world. He won an Academy Award for Gravity and earned even more praise for Roma in 2018. He also proved he can handle big franchises when he directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is still considered one of the best Harry Potter movies.

If Cuarón does take the job, fans can expect a unique and stylish Bond movie. He’s known for bringing emotion, visual beauty, and depth to his films—all things that could give 007 a fresh new look.
