Join us on Reddit for the latest Marvel & DC news!
Hallmark is well known for its lighthearted, romantic holiday movies, and ‘A Godwink Christmas’ proved to be one of their latest hit movie series over the past couple of years. The series started with a single TV movie in 2018, but it was quite popular and well-received among fans, so they decided to make more, and several more Godwink movies came out in the following years.
But, just how many ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies are there? So far, four movies are in the series, but it’s unclear if Hallmark plans to make more. To get all the answers, including where to watch the ‘Godwink Christmas’ films and what each movie was about, you just need to sit back and keep reading this article.
‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies in order by release date
If you’re just here to get the order list and jump right into watching ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies, here’s a complete list of all four films, ordered by their release date:
- ‘A Godwink Christmas‘ (2018)
- ‘A Godwink Christmas: Meant for Love‘ (2019)
- ‘A Godwink Christmas: First Loves, Second Chance‘ (2020)
- ‘A Godwink Christmas: Miracle of Love‘ (2021)
Throughout the rest of the article, we’ll get into the entire series and each movie separately in much more detail, so be warned, as there will be spoilers ahead. I’ll explain how the movies are connected, how the series came to be, how well-received each movie was, and much more.
Are ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies connected? What’s the best order to watch them?
‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies are not directly connected, as each movie tells a separate story with different actors and situations. However, all four movies are allegedly based on true stories and on stories from the ‘Godwink’ books by Squire Rushnell and Louise DuArt – both of whom also actively worked on the films.
The best way to watch ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies is definitely by their release date. Although each movie has a stand-alone story, some subtle connections, Easter eggs, and recurring themes are best picked up on if you watch the films in the order in which they were coming out.
‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies in chronological order
As we have mentioned before, every movie from ‘A Godwink Christmas’ series can be viewed as a standalone story – meaning, the chronological order of the storylines is completely irrelevant. That’s why I believe you should stick to the release order for the best viewership experience, but you won’t miss anything too important if you mix up the order randomly.
Let’s dive a bit deeper into each film in the franchise so that you can see which storyline you like the most and go from there.
1. ‘A Godwink Christmas’ (2018)
The first movie in the series came out in 2018, and although it was originally titled ‘A Godwink Christmas,’ it is also known as ‘A Christmas Coincidence.’ The movie was directed by Michael Robison and stars Kimberley Sustad and Paul Campbell in the lead roles as Paula and Gery, respectively.
Paula has had a boyfriend for quite some time who proposes to her, and she decides to accept his proposal despite having second thoughts, as the groom-to-be is heavily career-oriented to become a successful attorney. Meanwhile, Aunt Jane invites Paula over for the holidays, and Jane accepts.
While there, she plans a little trip to the island of Martha’s Vineyards, where she meets Gery – an inn owner. Bad weather prevents Paula from departing, so she stays at the inn – and inadvertently falls for Gery.
When her boyfriend falls back into his all-work ways, Paula breaks off their engagement. Aunt Jane invites her back for Christmas, making a plan for Paula and Gery to meet again…
2. ‘A Godwink Christmas: Meant for Love’ (2019)
Again, the title for the second film in the series was changed from ‘A Godwink Christmas: Meant for Love’ to ‘Another Christmas Coincidence.’ Still, the movies belonged to the same series despite not being direct sequels to one another in terms of the story. The first movie was a success, so Hallmark simply decided to tell more Godwink stories.
The only recurring actress was Kathie Lee Gifford. In the first film, she portrayed Aunt Jane, whereas here, in the second movie, she played the role of Olga. Paul Ziller directed the film, while Cindy Busby and Benjamin Hollingsworth portrayed the leads, Alice and Jack.
Alice was a family clothing store manager, and Jack was a medical salesman, and through a series of odd coincidences, they kept bumping into each other right before Christmas. In fact, they both ended up at the same wedding celebration/party one weekend.
Their professional lives – and romantic pasts – are in the way, but slowly, the pair realizes that those coincidences might not have been coincidences at all…
3. ‘A Godwink Christmas: Second Chance, First Love’ (2020)
The third film once again saw a complete cast & crew change, with Heather Hawthorn Doyle taking the directing duties while Brook D’Orsay and Sam Page depicted the two main characters, Margie and Pat.
This time, a ‘godwink’ chance encounter didn’t happen between two strangers. Instead, the main couple actually got a second chance at real love. Pat lived in Hawaii for 15 years as a single father to two sons. However, he moved back to his hometown to restart his life.
In a weird set of coincidences, both he and Margie end up stuck in traffic – right next to each other. They were high school sweethearts, but they were just kids back then. Now, they have a chance at true love. Will another Christmas miracle bring together another couple?
4. ‘A Godwink Christmas: Miracle of Love’ (2021)
Last but not least, the fourth movie in ‘A Godwink Christmas’ series came out in 2021, and for the first time, the director didn’t change from its prequel; Heather Hawthorn Doyle directed ‘Miracle of Love’ as well. This time, the story revolved around Joy Fickett and Eric Fellman, portrayed by Katherine Barrell and Alberto Frezza, respectively.
Joy and Eric met each other at community service after a series of ‘godwink-classic’ coincidences brings them both to the small town of Oshkosh. As the couple helps a family rebuild their home, they slowly realize that their lives are rebuilding themselves in a whole new direction.
They start believing in destiny – but is destiny bringing them closer together, or is it directing them back to their old lives? You probably already know the answer.
Where to watch ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies?
All four ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies are Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original films – meaning, they are available almost year-round on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. If you can’t wait for the Christmas season and want to take a peek right now, you can always buy or rent the films on Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, or YouTube.
Will there be more ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies?
No additional movies from the ‘A Godwink Christmas’ series have been officially announced by Hallmark as of right now. However, there’s a strong chance that the worldwide pandemic and the recent strikes played a role in that being the case.
Seeing how popular ‘A Godwink Christmas’ movies have been so far, I don’t see a reason why Hallmark would stop producing more similar stories and continue the franchise into the future. We will certainly keep you posted if any official announcements are made about a potential fifth installment or cancellation of the series.
