Spinarak is a Pokémon based on a spider, specifically the Hawaiian happy-face spider, Theridion grallator, famous for having a face on its thorax. Spinarak weaves its web with a fine but extremely resistant thread, capable of supporting the weight of a 10 kg rock without breaking. In addition, some fishermen make nets to fish with these threads.
Once the web is woven, it waits patiently for its prey to fall, maintaining the same posture in its web for days. Additionally, the web that Spinarak weaves can be thought of as its second nervous system, as it can tell what kind of prey has fallen into its web by the slight vibrations of the web’s threads. His favorite food is Cutiefly. The venom from its fangs is not overly toxic, but it is enough to immobilize prey that falls into its webs.

Number | #168 |
Generation | II |
Types | Bug / Poison |

Ariados is based on the Myrmarachne plataleoides, a spider belonging to the family of jumping spiders that mimic weaver ants, which is why its physiognomy seems to have common features of spider and ant. It has six legs, two of them raised, a feature that characterizes the plataleoides, which are probably used as antennae, as well as a small horn between its large eyes.
It has two chelicerae on either side of its mouth, which help it grasp and chew. Ariados is capable of launching his web both from his mouth and from his spinneret at the end of his abdomen, giving him an advantage against unsuspecting enemies. It captures its prey (such as Pikachu) by enclosing them in a layer of webs that are impossible for them to break, leaving them defenseless. They are then eaten or carried back to the nest.

Joltik
Number | #595 |
Generation | V |
Types | Bug / Electric |
Abilities | Compound Eyes: The Pokémon’s compound eyes boost its accuracy Unnerve: Unnerves opposing Pokémon and makes them unable to eat Berries Swarm: Powers up Bug-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low (Hidden Ability) |
Weaknesses | Rock, Fire |
Joltik is based on a tick. His body is small and with yellow fur. It has four legs and the end of these, as well as its eyes are blue. Joltik is unable to generate electricity on his own. However, he needs this energy in order to live, so he must obtain it from other sources. The Joltik that live in cities tend to haunt the sockets of people’s houses and steal it from there, which can sometimes cause blackouts.
On other occasions, it takes advantage of its diminutive size to cling to other larger Pokémon to absorb the static electricity that accumulates on their fur. This is very often the case with Yamper’s buttocks, as they generate a large amount of this electricity. Once you have obtained the electricity you need, you have an internal bag where you can store a certain amount for times of need.

Galvantula is based on a tarantula. Galvantula is adept at weaving cloth with electrified threads from her abdomen. He usually uses them next to the nests of Bird Pokémon to catch the chicks that don’t know how to fly well yet.
In combat he also uses these electrified threads defensively, creating a barrier between himself and his rival. When these threads reach an enemy they are electrocuted and immobilized, leaving them stunned for at least three days.

Weaknesses | Flying, Rock, Electric |
Dewpider is based on a water spider, which is characterized by living its entire life in water. Dewpider almost always lives under water. It only comes to the surface in search of food. The bubble with which it surrounds itself serves to breathe and protect its delicate head out of the water, since it can only breathe the oxygen present in the water.
When it encounters potential enemies or prey, it shoots a stream of water at them from the bubble it protects its head with. Dewpider live for a long time in colonies led by Araquanid. When the Dewpiders are able to live on their own, they leave their colony to find their own pond where they will found a new colony. Dewpiders are very competitive among members of their species. If two of them meet, they compare the size of their bubbles and the loser has to give way to the one with the largest bubble. However, his natural enemy is Surskit.

Araquanid is based on a water spider or possibly a sea spider. This Pokémon stands out for its large eyes of a light blue hue with a wavy white stripe. His head is completely surrounded by a bubble of water. Its body is a dark blue-grey hue and green, yellow or brown overtones stand out on it. Its legs are light green and its claws are blue and pointed.
Araquanid headbutts his enemies with his bubble. Smaller Pokémon are trapped inside and drown, they can even be absorbed by being inside it. In case you are not hungry, Araquanid can store them in this liquid. However, he is more attentive than he seems with his own.
If he finds one of his own weak or vulnerable, he protects them by wrapping his bubble around them. He also uses his bubble to protect himself. Araquanid keeps everything that is precious to him in his bubble. He will also try to catch his trainer if he is careless.

Are there any spider-like Pokémon with eight legs?
If you look at our list more carefully, you’ll notice that all the six spider-like Pokémon in the franchise have six legs at most. Spinarak, Galvantula, Dewpider, and Araquanid all have six legs, while Joltik has only four; Ariados is somewhat specific as it uses four legs for walking, while its third pair is located on its back.
So, as far as the Pokémon franchise is concerned, there is concerned, there are no spider-like Pokémon with eight legs, which is a bit strange, seeing that real-life spiders do have eight legs.
Why don’t spider-like Pokémon have eight legs?
Now that we have established that spider-like Pokémon have six legs at most, we can speculate as to why that is like that. One of the reason might be due to the fact that they are not actual spiders, but only spider-like Bug-type Pokémon, and insects don’t usually have the same number of legs as spiders.
Another probable reason is of a practical nature – namely, it’s much easier and more practical to draw and animate six legs than eight legs. In that aspect, the designers probably used the fact that these Pokémon are not actual spiders to allow for a reduced number of legs.
